Spring is just around the corner and as I write this, it’s felt like mid spring here in Charleston, SC. It’s been warm enough for people to flock to the garden centers and stock up on plants and flowers. Cold spell coming soon (Update: actually it’s here now)- at least for a night or two and then back to normal. I thought this painting by Lauren Everett Finn was apropos for this time of year. Bright and happy – it makes me smile.
If you live in an area that is not feeling spring-like temps, maybe this painting can help bring a smile and the feel of sun (spring is on its way!)
I ran across one of Lauren’s paintings on Facebook, a zinnia painting that wasn’t yet finished, still a WIP (work in progress). Zinnias always catch my eye. Lauren has some happy paintings for sale, be sure to check them out – she also has a few classes, so if you’re interested check those out via the link below.
Small world, I grew up in MI and moved here over 30 years ago. Lauren is from Michigan, a beautiful state – I do miss it! It’s nice to see that she captures the beauty of the area.

Lauren Everett Finn has been a Michigander most of her life. She graduated from Michigan State with an Advertising degree, but found her love of drawing through her first job, doing drafting for Caterpillar Tractor. From there, she’s largely self taught through her enormous art book library and the occasional class or workshop. Lauren likes to work in layers, sometimes completely obscuring what’s underneath with paint or collage and sometimes letting the bottom layers peek through. This makes for an interesting surface that shows the process of the work; it also leads to those happy accidents that just can’t be planned. Lauren is a popular instructor, teaching classes in northwest Michigan and in metro Detroit.
