You’ve heard the old adage, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” right? The modern version of said adage is the petal doesn’t fall far from the flower. Ok, so I needed to make a Father’s Day post work with an image and when I saw this image it immediately came to mind… Today is Father’s Day.
My dad is such an amazing man. I am so blessed to have the best of the best (both parents) – and to still have them in my life. I just wish they were closer, but you just can’t have everything, right? My dad taught us important lessons, that have stuck with me to this day – one that comes to mind right away was one of Aesop’s fables. The boy who cried wolf. I think we were in my grandma’s swimming pool, having fun and yelling (well, the water in MI doesn’t heat up that much in the summer, ha ha). He told us the WHY you don’t yell unless it’s for a good reason. The boy who cried wolf, he yelled for help when he didn’t need it. Then he needed help and yelled and no one came. Mmmmhmmm. This is a good story. It’s so true. I hear kids yell all the time, and at first I run to check to be sure they’re ok, then after they do it so many times you stop checking. Thankfully it’s worked out so far, but it’s a good thing to learn. (If you aren’t familiar with this particular fable, click the link above to read more).
I have my dad’s inquisitive mind. He’s always tinkering or trying to figure out something new. He was the first in the family to buy a digital camera, an iPhone, an iPad – the list goes on. His never ending sense of wonder is fabulous and makes him the interesting person he is today. From jewelry making, stone polishing, sailing, wine making, photography (including a dark room), art to extensive recipes with so many steps even I would forgo. I don’t know many kids that made rosette’s at Christmas, or who spent so much time decorating cookies artfully, and not just full of frosting to eat quickly. And tinsel… one strand at a time. It’s funny the things you remember. I love you dad – Happy Father’s Day, your’e the best of the best!
I would like to wish Fred’s dad – who is another great man, a very Happy Father’s Day. Both of you are such a blessing in our lives – we are so thankful!
Happy Father’s Day to the rest of you! May you have a wonderful day – kids remember little things throughout their entire lives. Teach them little bits along the way. The little bits you’ve taught them will pop up forever. I hope you have a peaceful day swinging in a hammock enjoying a steak on the grill (or a lovely day at the beach enjoying a tofu burger) – whatever your liking is – may this be a wonderful day to celebrate YOU!
🙏 Until next time…

Great post and a lovely tribute!
