Guess the Artist (Detroit Institute of Arts) #23!

For this week’s Guess the Artist, I thought I would select a painting that has the lovey-dovey vibe going on (Reminder if you need it: Valentine’s Day is Wednesday). It’s AMAZING to me how this painting is so realistic on one side and so loosely painted on the other side – yet it blends so beautifully. This is one spectacular painting!

Do you want to give it a few more minutes before you check the answer? It’s hard to imagine the amount of skill and imagination to create such a masterpiece!

Do you also love the Detroit Institute of Arts? If so, VOTE for them as #1 art museum in the United States (they were #1 last year!), vote HERE

In this painting, two shepherds have fallen in love Chloe rests her head on Daphnis’s knees as he fashions a flower wreath for her.

The artist draws from his knowledge of ancient art to depict the clothing on these characters from an ancient Greek epic. He also creates an idyllic landscape, reflecting the European admiration for the ancient world
