Biltmore House – A View of the Winter Garden!

Winter Garden at the Biltmore House, Atrium, Glass ceiling with wood, Stunning electric light fixtures hang from the ceiling, tropical plants, statue, arched openings

Biltmore – Asheville, North Carolina. Wow! Doesn’t even come close to the feeling when you are within the walls of this grand estate. The details, so many details on every single level. As I mentioned in an earlier “Biltmore” post, I snapped almost 800 photos in a two day span. I think I have photos from each of these arched openings. There were people here, I was just waiting to take a photo until the coast was clear.

During the self-guided tour they mentioned how the atrium was filled with palms that really filled the space, and made it so that it was private when you were in the Winter Garden. When visitors arrived they saw the palms, plants, etc. but they did not see you in the sitting area within the Winter Garden. How lovely is that? Keep in mind, the Vanderbilt’s had guests from all over the world. There are over 30 guest rooms.

A blip from Biltmore.com:

Construction of the Biltmore House

Construction began in 1889 and after 6 years, Biltmore House was first opened to friends and family on Christmas Eve, 1895. Biltmore House was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt and spans 175,000 square feet, which is more than four acres of floor space.

The Winter Garden

Inside Biltmore House, the Winter Garden was utilized as an intimate space to welcome guests after their long journeys and was filled with exotic palms that reached up toward the glass ceiling. Nowadays, this green oasis continues to showcase exotic plants and palms year-round.
