Head’s up in case you haven’t seen the signs regarding a new law going into effect in South Carolina. Beginning September 1, No Hand-Held Devices… What does this mean exactly? What do you think about it? See the details below. It’s called the Hands-Free and Distracted Driving Law and it begins a week from today, Monday, September 1, 2025.

Info via scdps.sc.gov:

Under the Hands-Free and Distracted Driving law, drivers are not allowed to:

  • Hold or support a mobile device with any part of their body.*
    • *This does not prohibit the use of an earpiece or device worn on the wrist used for voice-based communication.
  • Use a mobile device to read, compose, or transmit texts, emails, app interactions, or website information.
  • Watch motion on a mobile device, including a video, movie, game, or video call.

First offense is a $100 fine, second offense (within 3 years) is a $200 fine + 2 points on your driving record.

Eek, two points is enough to make you pay attention to this law… Drive smarter, drive hands free. View the link for far more details.
