Who Else Misses the Book Section at Costco?

There is a gaping hole in my visit to Costco. My favorite section, the books, was dwindled down to nothing. I don’t believe the reasons were good enough to annihilate a section that had fans across the country. Every time I was looking at books there were many other people doing the same thing. My typical Costco run consisted of me running around picking up everything on my list and then heading to the book section to see if there was something appealing to pick up. What a treat – it would make my day. But…

Costco officials decided to reduce labor for their employees by discontinuing the book section (or bringing it back in a very small way around Christmas), which isn’t the same. They said because they have to be stacked on a table by hand it’s labor intensive vs. stacking pallets. Hmmm. I would think it’s the same situation for clothing, many of the seasonal items that you see individually, electronics, etc.

I’ve read that Costco execs also assume that most of us are reading on a device vs. with a real book. Well, in the book groups I’m in, so many of us prefer a paper book. A real book…

That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. What’s yours? Happy Saturday!
