If these trees could talk…

We have a canopy of live oak trees over streets in our neighborhood. This is something to protect and something to cherish. Each was planted when the neighborhood was developed in the 1920’s. They had the foresight to plant a tree in front of each house (previously a cabbage field with no trees). Ingenious is the word that comes to mind.

These trees grow faster than you think. Some in this neighborhood have a massive circumference. We don’t live on the water but we do have view of these lovely trees with the Spanish moss swaying in the wind, the Resurrection fern that goes from dark brown and crinkled up like it’s dead to bright green and look like a very alive and happy fern. These trees hold secrets – can you imagine all they have heard in their almost 100 years? It’s absolutely mesmerizing to think about and to witness.

Be a good steward of your trees so future generations can enjoy the same view. These trees give us shade, a brief respite from the heat, they give us beauty, and they make our air cleaner (not to mention help to drink up extra water from rain storms). They are literally so important to this area (especially being almost at sea level). Treat them with respect.

May they last 100 years more!

🌳 Until next time…
