Pegasus Taverna – What a treat!

Funny thing, we were recently in Michigan visiting family. We ran to a cool pottery place (more on that in a future post) and passed this fabulous restaurant on the way home. We love Greek food but some places are far better than others and this is one of those places. We were there early and quickly the restaurant filled up with people. It was a weekday, most all were older, gathering around and having a good time. I loved seeing what they ordered, everything looked fabulous – including the “oompah cheese” as I used to call it, which is SO fun and delicious – I didn’t order it this time, but it was fun to watch.

The name of this FABULOUS restaurant is Pegasus Taverna (check out their menus). Long ago, we used to visit the Greektown (Detroit) location, which was so fun and truly like being in a different country. This (newer) location is in St. Clair Shores, MI – we happened to be passing by about the time they opened for lunch, so we stopped in. Our waiter knew everything, he was so helpful in trying to choose from a menu full of delicious options! In the end, I ordered the grilled chicken gyro (WOW!) and my husband ordered the lamb gyro (WOW!) and we split a salad. My gyro was one of the best ever, and the tzatziki was out of this world. It came with homemade potato chips that weren’t over salted (thank you!) – they were a treat!

It was the salad that was ridiculous it was so tasty, so fresh and the feta – best ever! So, if you’re ever in the area… this has inspired me to try different versions of feta (blocks vs. crumbled for sure) as well as try making different Greek dressings. It was spectacular! I could easily make a meal of the salad! But you know what was so interesting to me? THE BEETS! I’m not a beet lover – to me they taste like dirt ;) But I tasted these and whoa! #gamechanger I don’t know what it was that made the beets so flavorful, but wow, I could eat these beets (and enjoy them!) – #woohoo

I love to give a shoutout to those who deserve it and wow, does Pegasus ever deserve it! Looking forward to our next visit!

🍽️ Until next time…
