I’m writing this post on Tuesday, the day before the storm (Hurricane for Florida, Tropical storm for SC). I’m thinking about those in Florida who are having to leave their homes – those who are flooding or going through any number of things we go through with these tropical storms. You can’t totally predict Mother Nature. So it’s good to be prepared. What are some of the things you do…
As I write this on Tuesday afternoon, Charleston, SC is going to see a several hours of HEAVY rain in addition to an astronomical high tide due to the super moon (also full moon, which doesn’t help) at 8:24PM – which would cause major coastal flooding with or without Idalia. Some people in Charleston will have to move to higher ground, but as they say, the water is not from storm surge (from the ocean), it’ll be coming from land – so no surge.
I read or watch local weather because it’s a bit different. They seem to go out of their way to NOT hype up these storms. Like one commenter said regarding some of the big weather stations, it’s like ‘the boy who cried wolf’, constant hype makes us not listen to real warnings. So when I see our otherwise “this is not an emergency” local people say “this is an emergency” I take note. I am prepared anyway (“Always be preppin” as South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) would say).
Thinking of anyone who is dealing with this storm. I am a nervous energy person. I clean. I cook. I’ve done both today and it’s time to get back at it. Do I really need a batch of cookies? Oh, no… I truly don’t, but in case the power goes out and we have no food – we’ll be eating cookies. See, SCEMD – Always Preppin’!
🌀 Until next time… we plan to hunker down and wake up to a bright new day (no doubt with some yard work involved!)
