Book Review: Every Summer After by Carley Fortune!

Book cover, Every Summer After by author Carley Fortune.

I like that I was drawn into this book from page one. There weren’t too many characters. Some were likable, and some (by design) were less likable.. I started this book and ordered her next two. I’m interested to see how the stories unfold. Great summer reading. So grab a book, and an iced tea and immerse yourself in fiction! Reading is so good – like meditation of sorts.

About EVERY SUMMER AFTER via carleyfortune.com

Six summers to fall in love. One moment to fall apart. A weekend to get it right.

They say you can never go home again, and for Persephone Fraser, ever since she made the biggest mistake of her life a decade ago, that has felt too true. Instead of spending glittering summers on the lakeshore of her childhood, she stays in a stylish city apartment keeping everyone a safe distance from her heart.

Until she receives the call that sends her racing back to Barry’s Bay and into the orbit of Sam Florek—the man she never thought she’d have to live without.

For six summers, through hazy afternoons on the water and warm summer nights working in his family’s restaurant, Percy and Sam had been inseparable. Eventually that friendship turned into something more, before it fell spectacularly apart.

When Percy returns to the lake for Sam’s mother’s funeral, their connection is as undeniable as it had always been. But until Percy can confront the decisions she made, they’ll never know whether their love is bigger than their biggest mistakes of their past.

Told over the course of six summers in the past and one weekend in the present, Every Summer After is a gorgeously nostalgic look at love and the people and choices that mark us forever.

My review on Goodreads:

EVERY SUMMER AFTER by Carley Fortune ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

At first, I loved this book and ordered two more of Carley’s books. I have to admit, a few times I thought to myself, either be together or don’t but it feels like it’s dragging on a bit much. Don’t get me wrong, the book was still very good. Maybe my perception of this book is because sometimes in life it’s hard to read with a lot going on, so the focus isn’t there, meaning it’s ME, not the book. So hence the 4 stars. Excellent writing, great characters, wonderful setting that you really want to be a part of. Every Summer After was a good book, with writing that grabs you. I read through reviews where a few didn’t care for the ending. I thought it was great. In real life it absolutely could happen… This is Carley’s first book, and it’s a best seller! Pretty good for first book, right? She’s got several more, I’m looking forward to!

📚 Until next time…
