This is a Mimosa tree (Albizia julibrissin), also known as a Persian Silk Tree. They’re simply magnificent along a large public area in Charleston, SC. This tree features the fern like leaves with the fluffy pink flower, they’re blooming now, and are quite pretty. These trees can get rather large (20-40′ in height). Some people love them, others – not so much. Here’s why…
While there are negatives, at least if they’re in your yard: they’re highly invasive in the Southeast, known to be a messy and their seeds pods can be toxic to dogs if ingested. Ok, so those are the negatives.
I love the positives! They attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds!!! What’s any better than that? According to Google ;) it can improve soil nutrients, and it’s great for shade especially because it can handle the heat and drought conditions (and grows rather quickly). Woohoo.
I think they’re rather graceful, I like them in a public setting for sure. Thoughts?
👩💻 Until next time…
