I’ve been in Charleston over 36 years, wow, time flies! I love Michigan and all it has to offer. So many places to visit and check out. I think Mark did a great job capturing that big city feel, don’t you? This is an impressive 60 x 60. Mark has a fabulous loose style that has a uniqueness to it… I love how the light is hitting the taxi and the fabulous colors in the road, especially where the sun hits. Whoa. This one really keeps your eye in the painting doesn’t it? I don’t know about you, but mine starts on the taxi, then travels up to the large TV on the building, to the top of the building on the right where the light is hitting… over to the oh-so-very-cool green traffic light, following the arm of the light down to the red on the building to the white parked car and back to the taxi. Where does your eye go? Paintings have so many aspects that are just so interesting… like this ‘keeping your eye in the painting’ deal… but it’s so true! Mark has developed an international reputation and has won numerous awards, both in his native Canada and in the United States. A dedicated painter, Mark Lague was born in Lachine Quebec in 1964 and he has had a fascination with drawing since childhood, a skill he practices constantly, even to this day. Upon graduation from Montreal’s Concordia University in Design, Mark embarked on a 13-year career in the animation industry, working primarily as a background designer and art director. During this time, despite working full time, he began recieving international acclaim for his watercolour paintings through competitions, juried shows, and solo exhibitions. In 2000, Mark switched to oil as his primary medium, and in 2002 made the jump to full time painter. As an artist he is a realist, who is open to virtually all subject matter. What keeps him excited about painting is his endless quest to simplify and get to the essence of whatever he paints. Mark has been featured in numerous national art magazines, and continues to recieve international recognition for his distinctive style of painting.

Sandpiper Gallery, located on Sullivan’s Island has been a place that I love to take people who come to visit… they always find a cool piece of jewelry there. Sandpiper recently moved down the street, across from the infamous POE’S TAVERN (wonderful hamburgers, fish tacos, cool atmosphere, busy and happening place!). They now reside in a larger space. I look forward to getting out there to visit!
I thought this was an interesting piece by artist Sara Jane Doberstein. A different perspective, I like that. They way she captured the water, the rope and the crab, whoa! Very nice! Sara Jane Doberstein was born in 1976 in Hamilton, Ontario, and has spent most of her life in Owen Sound, Ontario on beautiful Georgian Bay. She moved to British Columbia in 1996 to study at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design, and has been a full-time artist since 2000. Her interest in the arts began at an early age, when she developed a passion for the American coastline during family trips to the Carolinas. She continues to visit the United States as often as possible, finding inspiration in the beauty of its coastal areas for her vivid paintings of seashells, sandpipers, and crabs.
Sara Jane’s diverse painting styles range from traditional representational to contemporary realism, and her work reflects a fascination with the natural world and its transformations. Whether her subject is a glossy cluster of cherries, the chipped paint of an antique, or the colorful jumble of seashells on a beach, her paintings capture the larger-than-life essence of everyday objects and scenes. Her playful, whimsical approach to her subjects is balanced by a technical mastery of paint, which combines to create detailed, thoughtful, and energetic compositions.
Sara Jane is a member of the Oil Painters of America, CAC, and Muskoka Arts & Crafts. Her work has been included in many prominent juried exhibitions across North America, and has won a number of awards, including an Award of Excellence at the Oil Painters of America’s 14th Annual National Juried Exhibition. She has been featured in several publications, including Southwest Art’s “21 Under 31”, and “Start Your Collection”. Sara Jane currently lives and works in Owen Sound and Muskoka, Ontario.
Ahhh, Sara lives on Georgian Bay in Canada… lucky girl! When I was a kid my parents would take our sailboat cruising Georgian Bay… great memories and a stunningly beautiful location! Catch you back here tomorrow!
Woohoo! A special day indeed! It’s my mom’s (also known as Sheila Fidler) birthday! I love this picture of her. When we were young my parents had a sailboat, we would cruise for three weeks in the summer to Georgian Bay (Canada), beautiful coast! My parents both raced sailboats, we had the best time. This picture was obviously taken on a sailboat, this is an old photo, one that I believe my dad developed in the basement of our first house. It’s gotten stained over time and a bit wrinkled, but the image is still awesome, just like my mom!
