Hemphill Bald – Waynesville, NC

This is one of my favorite photos. It appears as a screensaver often. I just don’t want the image to go away. This was a hike to a special place on our 30th anniversary. Sometimes when you take a photo it’s like the stars align. I love everything about this photo. It takes me right back to that day. Beautiful weather, good food, great people around us. Best time ever.

We went with a great group of people and the expert in residence at The Swag in Waynesville, Steven Reinhold (Appalachian Adventure Company). He made that hike special for every one of us. Steven pointed out some very cool things like the Indian trail marker trees, talked about forest bathing (look it up!) – wow – fascinating – Told us more about the bears (YOOOOO BEARRRRR!), the wild hogs (thankfully did not see) and so much more. Like I mentioned, it was a great group – we all had a good time. We stopped at the Hog Hilton area (not a hotel – the most serene, quiet and beautiful place with a breeze!) and ate our lunches (which were lovingly packed for us – and were quite the delight!)

Anyway, reminiscing about a fabulous place nestled on top of a mountain on the edge of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Wow. Between the view, the food, the gorgeous rooms and the ice cream – you will be counting the minutes until you can return.

See y’all soon!

👩‍💻 Until next time… (Oh! And happy October 1! Crazy how fast time goes by!)
