Jessica Lee Ives. I love how she’s able to portray her subjects in the water. Whether it’s floating, jumping, diving – the view from underwater is magnificent. Jessica captures her subjects well, the ripple of the water, the COLOR of the water, the light reflecting off of the water – all are difficult, yet Jessica masters each so well.
I’ve featured Jessica before, back in 2017 and 2022. When I saw that Jessica was the featured artist for the show in the Island Inn dining room this season I knew I had to feature her again! For those of you who aren’t familiar – The Island Inn (Monhegan, ME) has a show every season – a different artist each year. The show is choreographed by the Lupine Gallery. Choreographed seems like an odd term to use, but those of you who deal with art know, it’s a challenge to have it all hung perfectly. Where the right light hits each painting – and brings it to your attention. It’s a big honor being chosen to be the featured artist for the year. Everyone looks so forward to this time! If you’re on the island in June, here’s a hot tip: There will be a reception for the Artist on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 2-4PM at the Island Inn. We’ve never been on the island during this event, but the photos look spectacular.
By chance if you won’t be visiting Monhegan, Maine this summer, click HERE to visit the Lupine Gallery and see the paintings that Jessica has painted for this show. Wow! You are sure to be blown away! Jessica’s bio and links to her work below. ENJOY!

JESSICA LEE IVES
Light Shapes Life
May 26 – October 8
At the Island Inn, Monhegan Island
Lupine Gallery is pleased to present the 2023 Island Inn exhibit, Light Shapes Life, oil paintings by Jessica Lee Ives.
Jessica explores people in motion through the natural world. Her paintings are filled with adventure, vitality, natural beauty and wonder. In these paintings, Monhegan is more than a landscape, it is an immersive experience. Jessica conveys, with energy and playfulness, people as they move through, play in, and bask in the vibrant, fluid, light-filled world around Monhegan.
Jessica Lee Ives (née Jessica Stammen) received her B.F.A. from The Cooper Union School of Art and was named one of Glamour Magazine’s Top Ten College Women of 2003. Her work as an artist-in-residence at Ground Zero in New York City after September 11, 2001 earned her the Clark Foundation Fellowship with which she pursued her self-directed M.A. at New York University’s Gallatin School. Jessica also studied anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, clinical massage and movement.
Jessica’s current studio is located in Camden, Maine where she and her husband, Jonathan, own and operate Making Movement, a clinical massage practice serving artists and athletes.
Ok, so… now you can go make a reservation to visit the Island! Have dinner at the Island Inn where you can peruse the available paintings. If a trip to Maine isn’t in the cards, then click on the links above to see Jessica’s work! What a treat for the senses!

Amazing artist. Water and its effect on things in it is so difficult to paint.
