Rain or shine, sleet or hail (or even snow!!) – some places we visit are so special it really doesn’t matter what the weather is.- each has its own appeal. Our last trip to the mountains had a good bit of fog and it was lovely! I love cool weather (yet live in South Carolina) – the difference in temperatures between Charleston and Waynesville is mind blowing – especially for a 4.5 hour drive. I see why so many people love to visit the mountains. Of course the fog lifted and the mountains were glorious – what a treat!
The Great Smokey Mountains National Park (NC and TN) is the most visited National Park in the country with 12.94 million visitors in 2022 (the second most visited is the Grand Canyon with 4.73 million). I think it helps that the Great Smoky Mountains are within driving range for so many of us. I remember visited with my grandparents when I was just a little kid. I loved it then and I love it now.
If you are heading out on this Memorial Day weekend, be safe – keep your eyes on the road, and please don’t drink and drive. For us, we’ll be right here – hmmm, need to start thinking about what to throw on the grill! We had our first taste of Bison burgers on our last trip to the mountains. Wow. So lean, so clean looking – and the taste – OUT OF THIS WORLD! So I have my eye out for that!
🌄 Until next time…
Our happy place!

SUCH a happy place. I love the fact that it can be casual or dressy. You can wear hiking clothes or a dress/suit. You can hike, do yoga, and be outside all day or you can sit by the fire and catch up with your favorite book. The people we meet each time we visit makes for lifelong friends, and that is a gift in itself. Not to mention concentrated time without devices/distractions. Just wonderful people, good food, stunning views, fresh air and the cleanest/best tasting water in NC! 🌟
