Artist: Elizabeth Pollie & Charlie #4!

Study 17 (Charlie) by Elizabeth Pollie

I love this painting in so many ways. Charlie, looks exactly like he used to when he would come into the sunroom and jump up on one of the teak chairs where he would bask in the sun and ultimately take a nap. Oh, the life of Charlie – it was good.

Artist, Elizabeth Pollie captured him so well. It’s hard to believe how Elizabeth was able to capture everything about him. Magnificent. Another treasure that we will hold on to until the end of time. The tufts of hair sticking up were so Charlie. Throughout his life (he would have been 15 today!), his look would change a bit. As a puppy he looked like a slick coat Jack Russell, but quickly tufts of hair started to get wild, he was beautiful! After he had pancreatitis, and his diet was changed from one food to another he lost hair (and weight) dramatically (over time). Because we saw him every day it was hard to notice until one day I ran across a photo (8 billion Charlie photos!) where he was looking out the window, same stance, totally different dog. I sent those two images to our veterinarian and she couldn’t believe how much he had changed. We switched his food to a different Rx food and Charlie began to look more like Charlie – wild hair growing every which way. So we have 4 paintings and one sketch of Charlie – next week is the sketch – all from different phases of his life which is super cool.

Ugh, we miss the liveliness he added. The paintings we have of him are such treasures – kept for eternity! Happy birthday little man, you were the best! 🙏💫❤️‍🩹🐾✨🥰

About the Artist (via Elizabeth’s website):

FINDING THE EXTRAORDINARY IN THE ORDINARY

ELIZABETH POLLIE

Elizabeth’s personal art history extends back decades. Art as a path, a language, and a personal frontier has been present from the time of her childhood. She earned her BFA from The College for Creative Studies, where she later taught. Pollie also worked as a freelance editorial illustrator and was nationally awarded. Later as digital images replaced those that were traditionally created, Elizabeth’s interests turned in the direction of representational painting.

Her paintings find their power in discovering the extraordinary in everyday life. Elizabeth’s work has received a strong reception in the art world, collecting numerous awards as well as media coverage. Her work resides in numerous collections throughout the country.

In her own words:

As a child, picture books were my conduit to other worlds. Nature was another. I believe, imagination is the child’s muse and primary architect. As an artist, departing from the literal and exploring nuance and mood finds its ties within the same kind of connection to wonder and fascination. The artist Paul Klee said, “Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible.” Finding “significant wonder” through light and shadow, color and design, and quiet contemplation are touch points in my process. It’s a good life full of profound intimacy and an untamed sense of curiosity.”
