Hurricane Helene Relief for NC, SC, TN, GA, FL…

I specifically mentioned Western North Carolina in a past post because we know several people who live in Waynesville, NC. There are so many areas that need disaster relief and basic necessities like food, water and gas after Hurricane Helene. If you can, pick one great place (or many!) and make a donation. I’m trying to find places where the money goes to the people and not to a corporation. Donate however you can, whether it be time, money, supplies, etc. the choice is yours.

There are so many people doing wonderful things to help their neighbors, friends, strangers. People flying their personal helicopters in with supplies because it’s too difficult to navigate through washed out roads and downed trees and power lines to get to people who need help.

I remember when Hurricane Hugo hit the Charleston area – no power, no water, no news for so long. You truly have no idea what’s going on – everyone around you has a far better idea (especially now with social media)! There wasn’t much in the way of donations, but that was a long time ago. I do remember a truck with ice and another truck with water. My sister and I volunteered with the Red Cross for a period of time afterwards. I couldn’t go to work (roof was gone) until re-situated, so that worked out.

Nowadays the power of the internet & social media can help drive donations but please be wary because there is always a special few (👹) that will try to do evil. There are many food/water/supplies/generators/Star Link, etc. drives. I know our local Costco/Sam’s was/is out of water, toilet paper, paper towels because of the donation drives (and being drop off points). People are donating like crazy which is heartwarming! This is what happens after a natural disaster. People who had differences come together like you wouldn’t believe. I wish it could always be like this.

There is a really good chance your own community is collecting donations to send towards one of the affected areas. NC has a place in most of our hearts her in the Charleston area. There are so many donation drives packing trucks and trailers and making trips to locations that really need the help.

They need us. One day it may be one of us who needs help. These are just basic necessities to get by, to help those who can hike by mule or by foot into areas where roads have washed away and they can hopefully bring people to safety.
