Have you ever been somewhere and tasted something so divine, fresh, real and over the top despite being so simple? Well, we have and I’m sharing it with you. The places you can use this are endless – oh the joy, just in time for the holidays! It will take your dishes from good to out of this world! 💫
Wondering what the secret ingredient is? Look no further – Lusty Monk “Original Sin” Mustard – Course Ground, made in Asheville, NC. We first tasted it at an upscale restaurant at the Swag in Waynesville, NC. First tasted in a vinaigrette that blew us away. My husband and I weren’t the only ones talking about it – it was unbelievable! I asked the server what “lusty monk” was, she laughed and said “mustard but with a little kick like horseradish”. Perfect description. It elevates whatever you make.
I made an arugula, goat cheese, pickled red onion, tomato and cucumber salad and dressed it with the Lusty Monk Vinaigrette (recipe from their website). Their description of this recipe “A vinaigrette with an extra kick, compliments of the Inglis/Diem family! This vinaigrette goes well on salads, veggies, and anywhere you’d use a balsamic vinaigrette. It has a lovely extra pop from the mustard, the pepper flakes and the hot sauce, and has a nice balance.”
VIGOROUS VINAIGRETTE
1 cup olive oil
2 Tbsp Lusty Monk Original Sin mustard
8 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
2 cloves minced garlic
1 tsp honey
1 tsp red pepper flakes
2 tsp Pepper Plant or other red hot sauce
pinch or two kosher salt
Black pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients, shake up before each use. Cover and store in fridge.
I made a half recipe in my handy OXO Vinagrette Salad Dressing Shaker, which not only measures and shakes but it also stores! The only ingredient I didn’t have is hot sauce/pepper plant – also instead of minced garlic, I peeled the garlic, cut it in half and let it float – so a little garlic flavor, but not something you’ll taste when you’re done eating. For the two of us I made a half recipe and I’ll be able to use it a few times. Outstanding and out of this world!
The Lusty Monk mustard is a real treat (I found it at Whole Foods in the refrigerated section in the produce aisle). #wow – Life changing!
🥗 Until next time…
Please note: I am not a professional recipe writer/creator. Most of the time I share a recipe created by a professional (with a link to the original recipe) along with any changes that I have made to the recipe. My motto is to add the ingredients you like and skip those you don’t.

Great find!
