Sachuest Sunrise by Hank Buffington 24×36″ Oil/Canvas

Hank Buffington – a fabulous artist with a great sense of humor. His paintings reflect the beauty found in nature & life. Sachuest Sunrise (above) is a particularly difficult one to paint (to me), so many similar colors – you really have to know what you’re doing. I love the light on the water, the rocks and sense of distance and the sky which makes the water feel as if it goes on forever.

I’ve always like Hank’s work and his blog is fabulous, be sure to check it out. Like many, Hank has moved the bulk of his efforts to his website/blog vs. social media – I find myself social media it for a minute or two and don’t like what I see so I’m off again. I pop in here and there, share my post and move on with my day. #ahhhmuchbetter

Take a minute and check out Hank’s work, I think you will love what you see!

About the Artist (via Hank’s website):

I was born in Pennsylvania but did most of my growing up in a somewhat rural part of New Jersey close to the Delaware River. I didn’t appreciate the bucolic charm of the area when I was a kid and a lot of my drawings were fantasies to take me away from it to a more exciting life. Those drawings eventually took me to the Rhode Island School of Design, and after graduating I returned home to begin a career as a graphic designer and digital illustrator.

After years of commercial work the demands of fatherhood required that I step away and focus my attention on our family. I didn’t have much formal training in traditional painting while in art school but picked up a brush as a respite from diapers and feedings and laundry and dishes. Painting landscapes outside on the weekends was a much needed escape from the mayhem. With five children in the house it was a good way for me to find balance.

As our children have grown I still paint outside often but less as a need for escape and more for exploration. The spontaneity of a sketch becomes addicting, but I’ve been transitioning into slower studio works. The plein air sketches are becoming a starting point that doesn’t have to end when I head home.
