I’m “traveling” through my photos and found an image I love so much. Where I grew up. Life on the river was amazing. We lived for summer and were in the river a majority of the time. The water is chilly, especially when you move to SC and then go back to visit and jump in icy water, whoa! I didn’t remember it being quite that cold, ha ha.
This is the St. Clair River, and it’s beautiful. The island you see across the way is Russel Island, to the right of that island is a small uninhabited island (or at least it used to be) called Sand Island. On the other side of those islands is a similar view, except the horizon in the distance is Canada. That area is a major international shipping channel – when we first moved to the area in Michigan as young kids, it was mesmerizing to watch the freighters. The freighters run between Russel Island and Canada in the shipping channel where you hear their horns blowing at differing intervals signifying different messages. As a kid I was so interested in everything about them. I bought a book and each time one blew its horn I could tell what the message was. #howcoolisthat?
The river is so beautiful at night. Stunning with the moon. Wow. I feel so blessed to grow up in such a beautiful place. The river was everything to us as kids. It was the perfect neighborhood, full of kids our age.
👩💻 Until next time…

thank you
