Rockland, Maine – Looks like a painting!

Rockland, Maine. This is another throwback photo from the archives. I love the lights on the buildings, the pinkness of the sky and the overall coolness of this very spot. Lots of good art, food & people right here in Rockland. Have you been? If not, it’s  a place to add to your bucket list if you have one!

The building with the cool white awnings is the Farnsworth Museum – READ about it if you aren’t familiar. You will want to get there and check it out – and DO NOT miss the gift shop! I can spend a day perusing!

Beautiful lines…

This is a photo from the archives…  – wow is it a beauty! The lines of this boat are stunning, sleek & downright classy. I took this photo while in Maine, back in 2010 – how time flies!

Waves – Port Clyde, Maine

View from cottage in Port Clyde

Years ago we rented a cottage in Port Clyde, Maine. It was located right on the ocean – to fall asleep hearing the crashing sounds of the ocean was heavenly. Every night we had wonderful fires (magnificent stone fireplace). It was hard to leave that place! The ocean, large waves, tides and surges are all such a miracle, aren’t they?

Blessed!

The view from the Monhegan wharf looking towards Manana Island. I remember this photo… the sun was warm, the air was perfect – it smelled… FRESH! At times it can be so quiet (when there isn’t a boat coming in/going out). My soul needs this place, even if just for a short time. How about yours? Where is your special location to visit?

Contemplation – Monhegan

Oh! To be this bird, perched on this fabulous rock, soaking up the sunshine. I love the sound of the birds in the morning when we visit Monhegan. It’s fabulous how the sun sparkles on the water.

Over the Moon

Michigan Moon Over River

Be still my heart. Look at that moon! The subtle glow reflected in the pinkish water. I tell you, when I’m in Michigan I’m constantly running outside to snap photos of basically the same location. The ways in which this one view changes makes me so happy. It goes from sun, to wicked dark & stormy skies, to pop your eyes out sunrises and sunsets and now this… moon glow!

I’m over the moon with this moon shot 😉

A Michigan Sunset…

I am crazy about a sunrise or sunset. This is a Michigan sunset, near my parents house. They have such wonderful skies. Seems like it’s so dramatic a good bit of the time.

Enjoy your Saturday, take time to soak in the beautiful views wherever you may be!

Featured Artist: Stan Moeller!

Uncle Henry’s by Stan Moeller 11×14 Oil

The Lupine Gallery and the Island Inn will be presenting a fabulous show of Stan Moeller‘s paintings of Monhegan Island and France! What a show it’s going to be. I cannot wait to see it! If you’re fortunate enough to be on the island on June 28, 2017 – there is an opening reception from 2:00-4:00 PM. What a good time!

Here is a bit about the show, from the Lupine Gallery website:

STAN MOELLER: FROM MONTMARTRE TO MONHEGAN

The Lupine Gallery and the Island Inn will be showcasing Stan Moeller’s paintings of Monhegan Island and Paris, France in the 2017 Island Inn Show, “Stan Moeller: from Montmartre to Monhegan.”  The exhibit will be on view from Friday, May 26 through Sunday, October 8. The public is invited to a reception for the artist at the Island Inn on Wednesday, June 28 from 2-4 pm.

Stan Moeller has been painting and teaching oil painting workshops on Monhegan since the 1990’s. He describes his style as “Modern Impressionism with a little Contemporary Realism and a smidge of the Ashcan school.” The works on display reflect his passion for painting on site and his ability to capture the energy of a moment—whether the power of an ocean wave or the gesture of a figure in a café.

There has been a strong thread of connection between Monhegan and Paris for over 100 years, as American artists who were drawn here to paint the rugged and rustic life of the island were also drawn to the Paris art scene. In the late 19th and early 20th century, the hill of Montmartre was a mecca for painters, and many of Monhegan’s most prominent artists lived and studied in Paris, bringing the latest movements in European art back with them.

Stan travels annually between Maine and Europe to paint two of his favorite muses: Monhegan and Paris. This show brings together, for the first time, his paintings of these two iconic places. The owners of the Island Inn, Jaye Morency and Michael Brassard, split their time between Monhegan and Paris each year, and were inspired to bring their love of their two favorite places together in this exhibition.

Star of the show…

I swear you can find something beautiful anywhere you look. Doesn’t this flower seem to be the star of the show? Oh so bright and well formed amidst other flowers that were on the downswing (in this shot). I think that just makes this stand out even more.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, isn’t it?

Always be looking for the unlikely… simple beauty… always the best!

Pretty Flowers – Monhegan

Pretty flowers capture my attention every single time. I have no idea what these may be, but they were beautiful.

There seems to be a common theme to this weeks post – Monhegan – Maine… It’s good to have all those memories stored so you can take mini-vacations while daydreaming, ha ha…

Enjoy your day!

Monhegan Sunflower!

Monhegan (Maine) Sunflower… looks almost as if it’s waving or winking at you. Don’t you just love the vibrant yellow against the greens in the leaves?

This was another photo shoot on Monhegan, Maine. I can’t stop myself from taking photos of all the beautiful flowers! Happy day!

View of Island Inn from Horns Hill – Monhegan, Maine

This is a view of the Island Inn (with the flag) in the distance as viewed from Horns Hill, Monhegan, Maine. We love Horns Hill… it’s a great place to eat an ice cream cone 😜 – the steep hills help burn a calorie or two so you don’t feel quite so guilty.

Doesn’t the Island Inn look grand in the distance? It is… Home away from home, ha ha. That may be quite a stretch, but…
