Pontiac Trail – Mackinac Island, MI

This is the Pontiac Trail Overlook that I mentioned yesterday – Mackinac Island, MI. This is a fabulous place to visit – I love this little trail, the views are stunning once you round the corner. You can see the Mackinac Bridge as well as Lake Huron. You also will most likely have gone by the West Bluff – a favorite location behind the Grand Hotel!

Oh to be a butterfly on Monhegan Island!

Monhegan, Maine. A wonderful destination for sure. Fabulous place to visit as a human, oh, but to be on the island as a butterfly! An island filled with beautiful flowers, what a great time to be had!

Enjoy your Sunday and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow!

The “Back Side” of Mackinac Island, MI

Several years ago my mom, sister and I took a little vacation to Mackinac Island, MI. It’s a place we went every year when we were kids because my dad raced the Port Huron to Mackinac sailboat race each year. The men raced, the women drove to the island with the kids – had a few days to enjoy the island before the sailors arrived – I remember those trips. So many people! It was fun to hang out with your friends and have the island to roam. Those were the days!

Most people see is the the busy town area with all the cool business, hotels, restaurants, etc. This photo was taken on the back side of the island. Calm and serene – and I need that… while I enjoy the hustle and bustle I SUPER enjoy the quiet, peaceful beauty of the water and the shore. The island is about 8 miles around and it’s situated between the upper and lower peninsula of Michigan and lies in the Straits of Mackinac. Many people think of this as a touristy location, and it can be, unless you know where to go. The back side of the island is heavenly as is the interior of the island. Rent a bike (or even better, bring one if you can) the trails are stunning. My sister and I took a ride after a fabulous dinner and we were hustling to get to town before all light was gone! There are no streetlights, cars, etc. Just bikes and horses/carriages. Beautiful!

Monhegan Boat “Laura B” as seen from Marshall Point Lighthouse

Monhegan Boat Line. Love them. They have two fabulous boats, Laura B (pictured here heading back to Port Clyde from Monhegan), and Elizabeth Ann, a larger boat.

It seems that we usually take the Elizabeth Ann on our way to the island and the Laura B on the way back to Port Clyde. Both are wonderful – the crew – and everyone who works at Monhegan Boat Lines is fabulous!

Monhegan Boat Line, Port Clyde, Maine

Monhegan Boat Line – Port Clyde, Maine

A photo through a window – of the Elizabeth Ann headed back to Port Clyde from Monhegan, Maine. Monhegan Boat Line makes sure the trip is always an adventure – Monhegan is about 10 miles from the mainland. The Elizabeth Ann takes about 50 minutes. We have taken different routes over the years depending upon wind, weather, etc. It’s always fascinating!

The Rockwell Kent – James Fitzgerald Studio – Monhegan, Maine

There is something magical about the Fitzgerald Studio on Monhegan, Maine. This studio was originally owned by Rockwell Kent (read more about it HERE)!

I could easily live in this small studio – the windows that open out are pure heaven! I love the beautiful paintings and some of the artists items sitting around the studio as noted in this photo. If you ever get the chance to visit Monhegan, be sure to visit the museum and the Fitzgerald Studio!

The End Was Near

Can you imagine? One minute the sky is beautiful and then out of the corner of your eye you spot a dark cloud that morphs into most of the sky filled with this powerful dark cloud moving towards us. I was in Michigan visiting my family, we were all taking photos of it approaching (we all love weather) – after this passed the warm air cooled considerably. This was so dramatic! Was the end really near? Absolutely not – I’m not a storm chaser, just a lover of weather, I’m quite fascinated by it, always have been, especially when what you see is so striking! A cold front? I believe so, it was quite chilly afterwards!

Stunning Sky Over Marsh – Michigan

Marsh View in Michigan
Yay iPhone! This camera can take some bedazzling photos if I do say so myself! I get many comments on photos which I really appreciate, but truly, it’s not me… I mean just LOOK at this sky! All I did was push a button! These clouds go on forever and ever and are brightly reflected in the water. Vibrant green grass against a stunning blue sky. Wow.

View from Port Clyde, Maine

Such a crisp scene. Not crisp as in cold, but the striking darkness of the horizon against that gorgeous sunset. Love those few stray clouds drifting by. So serene. This photo was taken in Port Clyde, Maine a few years ago…

The Barnacle – Monhegan, Maine

Ah! The Barnacle – love this place. Great food, cool gifts, nice wine and bakery goods. The Barnacle is a part of the Island Inn and it’s a treasure. It’s located right near the Monhegan wharf. We have met some really interesting people inside including one woman who demanded that we play some game with her that lasted hours and we kept trying to get away, but then found out she was killing time because she didn’t want to “do Monhegan”, she wanted to go back to her condo in Camden, sigh… #dontknowwhatyouremissing #notv #nophone #nostress #thatgamewasstressful

Reflections: Tenants Harbor, Maine

Tenants Harbor, Maine

Just look at this water – it’s like glass, which really made the reflections stand out even more. I took this photo several years ago – I remember walking around Tenants Harbor, near the East Wind Inn. We had dinner reservations and arrived early, so I was able to get some amazing photos before dinner. Woohoo!

Enjoy your Saturday and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow!

Monhegan (Maine) Sky!

Pretty cool clouds, hmmm?  I love a sky full of cool clouds. These had wonderful movement and the scene changed quickly. Are you a sky gazer? Do you love looking up to the sky and taking it all in? It’s so relaxing!

Rockland, Maine – Looks like a painting!

Rockland, Maine. This is another throwback photo from the archives. I love the lights on the buildings, the pinkness of the sky and the overall coolness of this very spot. Lots of good art, food & people right here in Rockland. Have you been? If not, it’s  a place to add to your bucket list if you have one!

The building with the cool white awnings is the Farnsworth Museum – READ about it if you aren’t familiar. You will want to get there and check it out – and DO NOT miss the gift shop! I can spend a day perusing!

Beautiful lines…

This is a photo from the archives…  – wow is it a beauty! The lines of this boat are stunning, sleek & downright classy. I took this photo while in Maine, back in 2010 – how time flies!
