The Longleaf Cottage House Plan by Lake and Land Studio!

Longleaf Cottage by Lake & Land Studio

Can you imagine this gorgeous home (especially if you were situated on the water or any other heavenly place with a view!) – This house packs so much punch for its square footage. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t small (matter of fact, to us, it’s large, we live in a smaller older home). I love the lines of this house, the porches, windows, etc. How dreamy to have a fireplace (indoor/outdoor) outside! To me, that would be the ultimate.

House Plan: Nipper’s Escape by Flatfish Island Designs!

Nipper’s Escape by Flatfish Island Designs
Fred found this house plan and I have to say, I LOVE IT! Nipper’s Escape is such an efficiently designed plan! It has it all and only 1,100 square feet! An open plan with an optional upstairs, great living space on the porches, a master suite tucked away in a secluded spot and STORAGE! I know I’ve been showcasing small cottages, I will move up to the moderate sized 2,000-2,500 square feet roughly… in the coming future. I just know when we look for a home to build one day AFTER we retire… it’s going to be small. Neither of us want a large home with more room to spread out and collect “stuff”. We’re pretty good at getting rid of excess just because we don’t have a lot of extra space to store. So a pantry, and a few closets… fabulous!

So many great features. Especially if this house were built here in Charleston, SC.  Just look at these wonderful porches! We could easily be outside on our porches the majority of the year (all but summer with the mosquitoes and heat/humidity). A little powder room right inside the front door, can’t beat that for convenience! I LOVE the kitchen, lots of counter space, and open to the living/dining room… and A PANTRY! Oh, how I would love a pantry! Fabulous design, done right here near Charleston! Check out their website… full of amazing house plans!

Here’s a blip about Nipper’s Escape from the Flatfish Island Design website:

For a couple or a small family, the Nipper’s Escape house plan has a cozy, casual, outdoors feel perfect for a weekend retreat.

The Nipper’s Escape home plan features classic cottage styling, including distinctive gables with shed dormers. A private master suite on the living level features three exposures and a private patio offering spectacular views

This house plan features wrap around porches that offer a relaxed setting and lovely views. The deep-set design of the covered porches provides excellent shade for the entire ground floor living area, making the Nipper’s Escape home plan an efficient, eco-friendly green design.

Nipper’s Escape is a simple house plan that allows for easy expansion or modification. For example, you can add three beds and two baths to the second floor to create a loft space if you wish.

House Plan Thursday: Artist Studio Cottage by John Tee!

The Artist Studio Cottage… This is a great one floor plan with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a fireplace and 760 square feet – perfect for an artist’s studio! It really is a neat plan, even if you aren’t an artist! Oh to plop this on a sweet little lot somewhere… what a dream, huh?! Along with it, you could even have a little garage with an upstairs studio/guest room. That way other artists could come and visit and have their own space. John Tee (architect) has a nice website and so many different plans. This one is a favorite (if you super downsize, or live alone), this is plenty. So whatcha think??! Storage is my only concern… I guess you just learn to live with less OR you bump out that closet wall and make it much bigger. We’re pretty good about cleaning out closets and donating items… but this would take a lot more donating… a sweet happy place nonetheless!

Bermuda Bluff House Plan (SL254) by Allison Ramsey Architects for Southern Living!

House Plan Thursday… and another great Southern Living house plan is unveiled! Wouldn’t this be a sweet cottage set on a bit of land on the water? This is the front view. I love porches, I think they make a house a home. They’re a nice gathering place where you can spend time enjoying the great outdoors. This plan has a screened and unscreened porch. So perfect, I would use both!

Maine Photo: Home away from home… a cottage in Port Clyde, Maine!

We have stayed at this cottage in Port Clyde, Maine a few times. Each time has been a delight. There is nothing like it! The great windows with a view to die for, the ocean literally a stones throw away. Chilly nights, no heat, big fireplace, ahhh heaven! We’ve had some great times here! I went to the Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum and found a photo of it from long ago (the lighthouse is just down the street). How interesting! If I had unlimited funds I would build this exact house (if I couldn’t buy it first)…

Is there a special place you visit? Tell me about it! Where is it? Why do you like it so much?! What do you do while you’re there? Enjoy your summer!

A window to my soul… or from the cottage in Maine.

Cottage Window - Port Clyde, Maine

Those of you who are friends of mine on Facebook have seen this photo lately… This is one of my favorites. Taken from inside the neatest cottage on the planet earth. The cottage is in Port Clyde, Maine and looks out to the ocean facing Monhegan Island. This cottage is truly like a movie set. Nothing new or fancy about it, it’s been around for a long time. It’s situated so close to the ocean that during a storm it can be a tad thrilling… oooh how I’d like to be there now!

Sunset on the water in Meggett, SC

Artist Betty Anglin Smith and her husband own the sweetest cottage in Meggett, South Carolina. It’s a place to sit and read, watch the beautiful view on the water, and for Betty a place to paint. This photo was taken back in 2006 at an oyster roast there for an guest artist in the Smith Killian gallery in Charleston, SC. It was a beautiful night with a spectacular sunset. The reflections were just gorgeous!

Sullivan’s Island Home Tour, Day 5!

Hello there! We’re nearing the end of our Sullivan’s Island Home Tour. Over the past several weekends I have taken you inside one of the most beautiful homes on the island. I have taken MANY photos and you’ve seen precious few, but I tried to select the ones I thought would interest most of you! Today… two area’s: kid’s rooms and the original cottage (sitting area)… granted the children’s bedrooms were decorated for girls, but the space could easily be used for boy OR adults. Each room has a private bath, a walk-in closet and tons of storage. Tomorrow will be the last day of the tour… special design elements I thought might capture your attention…  so stay tuned!

Smart use of a window space, great for reading!

The playroom... complete with bunk beds, a TV, games, storage, bookshelves, etc.

A nice space that insures sweet dreams

A sweet room for a sweet girl

A brief stop at the butler’s pantry… such a functional space. Who doesn’t need more storage? For that matter… who doesn’t need a butler? hee.

Butler's Pantry

Very pretty…

Makes you want to be a butler, huh?

I like the mixture of textures, wood, seagrass as well as lucite, very nice!

Ok, I’ll catch y’all back here tomorrow… final day of the house tour… don’t miss it!
