Koi Pond by Andi Curran 24×24 Pastel on Black Foam Core

Wow! I absolutely love Andi’s paintings. The first time I saw her paintings I thought of Matisse and Van Gogh. The colors, the shapes… fabulous! I adore the whimsey in Andi’s paintings!

Andi Curran. Stunning work. Koi Pond is such a great example of her work. Bright colors of green and fabulous blues and the orange from the koi just makes it all pop. The movement is great – looks like a nice place to be if you’re a fish!

When you check out Andi’s website/Instagram you’ll see what I mean about the fabulous colors and shapes. Very happy paintings.

BIO

Drawn to color, pattern and texture from an early age, Van Gogh, Matisse and Gauguin were my childhood idols. Like these artists, I tend to see the world around me in an expressionistic way, with simplified forms and exaggerated color. I enjoy making art in a variety of mediums, but pastels and oils top the list.  Traveling to beautiful places and my love of nature provide endless inspiration.

Upon graduating from Towson University with a degree in Fine Arts, I moved to New York City. While there I continued my education at the Art Students League and the National Academy Museum and School in Manhattan. Upon returning to Baltimore, my studies continued at MICA, Schuler School and dozens of pastel and painting workshops and events around the Country.

In addition to my art practice I began teaching art to adults in substance abuse programs around Baltimore. Initiating art programs at Tuerk House, Marian House and Penn North, where art and creative expression became an integral part of the treatment plan for addicts. As a member of MICA’s Community Art Board, we initiated student internships in these treatment centers, which helped to expand their art programs and create a greater awareness for the value of art in recovery. In the past few years I began volunteering in the art program at Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy, an independent middle school for boys from low income families in downtown Baltimore.

My studio is located at the The Mill Centre in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore.  I have worked professionally as an artist, designer and teacher for over thirty years. My work has been shown in galleries up and down the East Coast, and is included in private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
