Monhegan, Maine. A place of utter peace and tranquility. The most gorgeous views you could possibly imagine… History, everywhere you look. If you’re familiar with paintings from Monhegan, you will likely have seen a painting or two of the old lighthouse keeper’s house and outbuilding – what is now the Monhegan Museum of Art & History. If this is a photo, you can only imagine the stunning paintings. Vibrant blue skies, stark white with red roof. Just beautiful!
Fascinating history not only inside the museum – but also about the (former) lighthouse keeper’s buildings – Read more about it via: Monhegan Museum of Art & History. If you visit Monhegan, I highly suggest stopping at the museum. The history is fascinating. Objects from days gone by, stories and so many stunning paintings. Monhegan is well known for the many famous artists that have graced its landscape over the years. Lynne Drexler (which you may have heard about recently), James Fitzgerald (love, Love, LOVE his paintings!), Jamie Wyeth (ditto the love of paintings!), Rockwell Kent… the list goes on and on and on!
Monhegan is fascinating not only because it’s absolutely beautiful, but because the people who live there, or have lived there in the past are so talented and interesting. It’s a wonderful place to meet new people, and to reconnect with those you’ve met in the past.
✍️ Until next time…
