Featured Artist: Anneli Skaar!

Anneli Skaar! Aren’t these flowers beautiful? It’s amazing that someone can create them. They appear so real, as if freshly cut from the garden, and placed in pretty vases. It’s hard to believe these are hand made paper flowers. THIS is a workshop I would love to take. If I lived closer to Camden, Maine – I would be signed up and ready to go. This workshop with Anneli will be fabulous…

I think I would have to sign up for all three workshops. Daffodils, Poppies, and Peonies! How could you not? I swear, some people are so creative, and Anneli is one of those wonderful people (read her bio, it’s fabulous!) – I love how “her love of paper flowers began as a pandemic hobby.”

The workshop is being offered through the Page Gallery, located in Camden, Maine. Read about the upcoming workshops with Anneli via the Page Gallery website! See the schedule below…

Studio Sundays in the Gallery (9AM- 5PM)

Join us for a one-day class of flower making or register for the full bouquet series. Participants will learn the basics of paper flower making, focusing on three very different bloom structures: sculptural daffodils, delicate poppies and lush peonies. Each day participants will meet at Page Gallery to learn about paper flower materials, color treatments and will sculpt and assemble blooms to create their own bouquets. Materials will be provided and students will receive a generous take-home packet of additional supplies and a list of resources. Morning coffee and lunch is included in the cost of the workshop. Participants must be 16 years of age or older and no experience is necessary. Enrollment is limited to 12 participants.

Anneli Skaar is an artist based in Camden, Maine, and is represented by Page Gallery. Her love of paper flowers began as a pandemic hobby and has evolved to become an extension of her artistic practice, with blooms making their way into fine press artist books and into elaborate paper sculptures, as it did in her Page Gallery 2022 Exhibition “Dandelion Life“.

A first generation American, Anneli Skaar (b. 1969) still holds a strong connection to her ancestral home in Scandinavia. Fluent in Norwegian, she moved to Norway from the San Francisco Bay Area, California, at 18, to attend the National Academy of Arts in Oslo where she received her BA. After a career of working as an illustrator and designer, she debuted her work as a painter in 2014, when she had her first solo show ICEHARDSHIPBEAUTY.

Skaar has participated in residencies at Galleri Svalbard at 78 degrees north in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway in 2015; as well as a residency onboard an EIMSKIP container ship traveling from Portland, ME to Reykjavik, Iceland in 2016. She has gathered material for her work in Ilulissat, Greenland, in 2017, at the site of the largest, active glacier in the northern hemisphere and was awarded the Maine Media Workshop Book Artist in Residency in 2016, for which she produced the fine art book Bears and Ruins. Skaar has also produced numerous talks and articles related to her work and travels in arctic regions. In 2020, her fine press book Nansen’s Pastport was published by Two Ponds Press. In 2021, she self-published the fine press book Monarch with a grant from the Maine Arts Commission.

In 2022, her artist book, Island Whale will be released by Two Ponds Press.

Anneli is an incredibly creative person! These flowers are beautiful in person and I can’t wait to see what is created in the class. Thanks for sharing this info!
