Cottage Revival House Plan by David Ranglack for Southern Living!

Now, this is a different sort of front entry. The front door isn’t at the front, but like some of the older homes in downtown Charleston, SC you’ll see the entry, then you walk along the side porch to the entry door. I love how this doorway is framed with shutters which lets you know to “walk this way” to the entrance while looking so charming and like it’s been in existence for a very long time. Beautiful!

This is the Cottage Revival Plan (SL-1946) by David Ranglack for Southern Living! This plan is 1,929 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. This is considered a “closed house plan” which is becoming more and more popular. I had a feeling walls and separate rooms would come back “in style”. It’s great to have an open plan with young children I would imagine. With dogs it’s always nice to have a way to close off rooms to keep them settled if not feeling well or in close sight if working on something (if they get into things). So, I can see both viewpoints – each can be very popular – and any of them can be stunning!

You enter this plan at the end of the side porch talked about and you step into the foyer. Off the foyer is a utility room to the left of the foyer. If you walk into the foyer and go straight you will head into the great room (with the fabulous built in bookcases) and a doorway to the kitchen. We have an old swing door and it’s fabulous! It’s nice at times to close off the kitchen and still have everything look nice. The master suite is located at the front of the house with three additional bedrooms lined up along the right side of this plan.

If I were to edit this plan for me, I think I would make bedroom #4 the utility room (with insulated walls for quiet) and have the Utility room become a pantry, or even (expanded) a small dining area if that’s your thing. I would turn bedroom #2 into a library/study area, but that’s me – we don’t need a lot of bedrooms. I love the curb appeal of this plan, it’s over the top!

Check out the plan on Southern Living’s website (link below) – they also have a few (gorgeous) images of the interior. Love the painted wood floors!
