Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin is Book 1 in the Darcy & Rachel series. Two strong women in vastly different ways. This book will keep you entertained in a “I-can’t-believe-she-just-did-that” kind of way. Read on for my review…
Is there anything better than traveling to another place (or time) and immersing yourself with interesting people to see where life takes you? Bonus: when you’re ready to “come home” simply close the book and *poof* here you are! You just can’t beat reading. I’m thankful I grew up with books, I treasure them.
I feel like I give a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews, but I spend a lot of time researching which books to add to my To Be Read (TBR) List. A LOT of time. So I have an excellent selection of books on the shelf to read. It helps to have found a few authors that I think highly of, especially an author with many books that I haven’t read yet (best feeling ever!) – This book was excellent on so many levels.
I bought this book back in October. I’ve been saving it for two conflicting reasons. 1. Nearly everyone says this is one of the best books (if not, THE best) they’ve ever read. However, when I skimmed the synopsis it dealt with some hard topics, I wasn’t sure I wanted to delve into that territory just yet. And reason 2. Because I knew if I read it, it would be over. No one likes this book to end, so… But, I did read it – and ohmygosh, it’s akin to being on a roller coaster. The highs, the LOWS, and EVERY emotion in between. But in the end, what I remember most of all is the true love and kindness of people, despite their conditions, a community coming together. Which is the sentiment that won out overall.
Coming Soon Book Alert! Jennifer Weiner has a new book coming out April 2025. The image was an Advanced Reader’s Edition, so it’s not the actual cover – you can see it now, it has been released since. I love book reviews, and rely on them to see if a book is something I’m looking for (or not). I don’t read any spoilers, and I don’t even read the back of the book or the description completely – I don’t want to know anything, but I do – It’s complicated, ha.
RIVETING! Another fabulous book by Kristin Hannah – Wow! I’m the one that hesitated to read this author because she’s not my typical genre. #wellsheisnow! I hate the thought of one day being without a KH book to read. It’s always amazing when you find an author new to you. Whose books you fall in love with and you can’t wait to get to the next book. I’m interspersing other books in between to a) lighten things up after a gripping read and to b) save the books so I don’t run out too quickly!
Emily Giffin. I have never read this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect. First of all, I love the cover. How important is a book cover to you? Do you feel it should reflect the story within the pages? Or does it not matter to you? My personal opinion is that it matters a lot. From something I read I’m not sure the author gets a say (not sure if this is true). I enjoyed this book, which I read recently, here’s my review…
The Nightingale is a book that is so difficult to put down. It’s hard to concentrate on little else while you’re reading it. I recommend you give in and fully immerse yourself in Kristin Hannah’s story. The story of brave women and men, happenings during World War II and the situations you wonder how a human can endure for such a long period. There is love and light, darkness and pain but there is also intense hope and strength of women doing their part to save (and comfort) others. Please, do yourself a favor and read this book.
Every once in a while a book comes out that is so special I just have to share with you. I haven’t read a book by Kristin Hannah in the past so this was a treat. Her writing flows so well, from the first page you are drawn in and there is no hope of escape. This book is on my “To Re-read” shelf (one day). There are only a handful that makes it to that coveted spot.
How many of you are familiar with Goodreads.com (or the Goodreads App)? How many of you simply couldn’t live without it? 🙋♀️ I used to keep a folder of sticky’s with books I’ve read. Epic fail to go through the folder every time I looked for a book (and it’s not something I want to drag along to a bookstore or library with me). Then I started a notebook, still, you have to look through it page after page. Trust me, you need Goodreads!
Beach reads 🏖 this time of year are the go-to book on many of our book lists. I like to hear what y’all are reading! Drop me a message via the CONTACT ME button above, or via a comment on my website (this post), Facebook or Instagram. The one genre I’m not big on is horror. Good grief, I don’t even watch the nightly news ;) So if you have any great suggestions, let me know!!
Ahhh, a good book, is there anything like it? Especially during trying times like we’ve seen in 2020. Reading is the great escape, you can travel to faraway lands from the comfort of your chair with an iced tea in your hand. #winwin
