Have you been? Check out the Footlight Players in downtown Charleston, SC

The Footlight Players is the most delightful place to spend an evening! You can expect to sit back and be completely entertained. I haven’t been in a while but am looking forward to going soon! It’s located in an old cotton warehouse in downtown Charleston, SC.

Click to see the upcoming schedule… THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ERNEST by Oscar Wilde is the next production. They also have a LATE NIGHT series that is less expensive!

Here is a blip from the Footlight Players website regarding the history… interesting! Hope to see you there soon!

The Footlight Players were ceremoniously launched in 1931 with a series of one-act plays directed by Lieutenant Commander Charles Russell Price at the Charleston Navy yard. The series was such a success and drew such a following that The Footlight Players formally organized and incorporated in the fall of 1932.

In 1934, the Players purchased an old cotton warehouse (circa 1850) with the idea of eventually converting it into a finished playhouse. Yet until 1938, all productions were presented in a variety of spaces around the Holy City—the Academy of Music (corner of King and Market Streets), the Victory Theatre (85 Society Street), Hampton Park, The Citadel, and The Dock Street Theatre. During this time, the cotton warehouse was used for storage and scenery construction. In 1941 a shortage of performance space caused the Players to again turn to their warehouse.

Just a roof and four walls, sixty dedicated volunteers remodeled and renovated the old warehouse and converted it into an informal playhouse and workshop. For the following 45 years, the Footlight Players continued to annually produce a number of regular season productions, both at The Dock Street Theatre and at Footlight. In 1986, after another dramatic renovation, The Footlight Players moved into the old cotton warehouse at 20 Queen Street, where they have remained ever since. What began as a small group has become for Charleston a theatrical tradition, built and strengthened over many years by hundreds of willing hands, the priceless gifts of time and toil, and by faith, enthusiasm and talent.

Ahhh! A great movie for the weekend!

Image: imdb.com

We haven’t had the best of luck lately when it comes to picking a movie to watch on DVD. We don’t watch alot of movies, so we tend to stick with Redbox. It’s quick, they usually have the movie and I can return it to any Redbox, which is a big plus. My husband spotted THE LINCOLN LAWYER… I thought, ugh… a lawyer that appears to work out of his car? How good can that be? Then I read the Redbox reviews… they were really impressive reviews. So we rented it…

IT WAS AWESOME! A great legal thriller, it’s definitely worth watching. Everyone in it was very very good… so if you need something to watch, this could be it! Click HERE to get to IMDB website for more info on movie, including trailer!

Enjoy your weekend! Catch you back here tomorrow!

They say laughter is good for you. Not a hee hee, but a rolling hard laugh that works your abs and brings you to tears. You know what I’m talking about, right? If not, RUN to your local place to grab a movie (or via Internet for those of you who are fancy) that makes you laugh. This is one that had me in tears. Bringing Down The House with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah. LOVED. IT. What movies make you laugh…?? I’m gathering a list of movies that really make you laugh and I need your help!

Have a great weekend and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow… !

Take me AS I AM…

Image via http://www.aliciakeys.com

Ok, if you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could take only one music album with you, which one would it be? That is the WordPress topic of the day. Kind of fun, so I thought I would play along… I like to listen to Alicia Keys – AS I AM. It starts out with the Intro that is slow and sultry, you have to turn up the volume to be sure it’s even on… then it segues into more of a beat, perfect for walking… I love to listen to it when I’m cooking or painting… So I think I’ll go ahead and turn it on now and get dinner rolling… How about you? What ONE album would you take with you if you were to be stranded…? I guess we should all take that one album with us since between the wild weather and the traffic we most certainly can be “stranded” in our cars! You can listen to these songs at www.aliciakeys.com !
