Saltverk Hand Harvested Flaky Sea Salt!

Saltverk Flaky Sea Salt from Iceland – Best of the best!

Owie! I ran across a treasure. Something as unique as a unicorn AND something you can actually use. This salt is AH-MAZING, it’s not just any old salt, it’s special in so many ways (and I’m not a salt lover) – it’s great on savory dishes (eggs/arugula and avocado toast) or something as delightful as Katharine Hepburn’s brownies (to die for).

Fred and I started watching Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted – it’s a fabulous show. It’s on the National Geographic channel. The photography is stunning, and learning about different foods and traditions from around the world is always interesting. There was an episode on Iceland and how Saltverk makes this salt. It was so interesting. I checked and yep, you can order it online from Saltverk. Thought that was cool. Fred surprised me and ordered it. You don’t need much, it’s such a delight, WOW! Especially nice lightly sprinkled on something chocolatey or savory!

I’ve never been much of a salt lover, with the exception of chips or pretzels. I noticed how people tended to salt before even tasting the food and it struck me that a lot of foods were over-salted. I also felt that it would be better in the long run for health reasons if I used less of it, not more. I’ve always used spices and herbs though. Then my doctor encouraged me to use more salt–shocking I know given that it’s the opposite for most people. So I’ve been experimenting and so far I’ve added Saffron Sea Salt, Alderwood Smoked Sea Salt, French Fluer de Sel, and Italian Black Truffle to my stock of seasonings. I love them all. So I guess I’m glad that my doctor said it was okay for me to salt away. I still don’t overdo it though.
