The Magic of Cathedral Woods – Monhegan, Maine

Cathedral Woods – Monhegan, Maine (photo from the archives 2008)

I wish we were here. But we’re not. I was looking through photos from years gone by – and this appeared. Those of you who have been to Monhegan know what a magical place this is. Cathedral Woods is so quiet and cool, even on a warm day. The feeling underneath your feet is so cool, I don’t know how to describe it. The trails are clean and clear – the air is fresh as can be, and when you reach a certain point you can hear the ocean – encouraging you to continue on.

Monhegan Island isn’t large – so none of the trails are extremely long. Once you reach the ocean side of the island, you’ll hear the roar of the surf, especially on a soon to be stormy day. It’s like nothing you can imagine. Pure heaven, for real. I swear, we could sit and look out forever and ever. It’s fun to hike to Pulpit Rock to watch for whales or just to sit and take in such incredible beauty.

If you visit Monhegan, be sure to buy a trail map (they’re cheap) – it shows the level of difficulty for each trail and where the trail is at. Hike. Eat. Repeat. 😉 – Read more about hiking on Monhegan by clicking this link!

✍️ Until next time…
