Nancy Crookston. I love her paintings – especially the paintings with a slight twist, like this one. So different and so memorable. A woman gazing at the moon – on a branch. Love the tree branch and the bends and twists of fingers and toes. This is magical (I believe it is also sold, but…)
Nancy was recently in town for the Oil Painters of America (OPA) Show at Reinert Fine Art in Charleston, SC. A friend of mine modeled for Nancy during a demo, which was pretty cool. Once I heard her name I looked her up and saw this painting – Wow. I love how many of her paintings have an edgy, cool, magical twist. So creative!
As I mentioned, Nancy’s paintings are fabulous – but so are her sketches. They’re such a treat to look through. Check out Facebook, Instagram or her website (under Drawings) to see them.

About the Artist (Nancy’s website):
Nancy Seamons Crookston is a Utah-born, California-based artist who has been creating groundbreaking art for over 50 years. She is a Master Oil Painter of America, and has received many awards throughout her prolific and influential career.
Crookston learned from the late Ukrainian-born colorist Sergei Bongart during the 70s and 80s, and attended his summer workshops in Rexburg, Idaho.
She paints mostly in oils and watercolors, and sketching is part of her daily routine.
Crookston can be seen around Alameda lugging her brown leather backpack stuffed with pens, pencils and sketch pads wherever she goes. One of her favorite things to do is settle in at a breakfast diner for a round of sketching. With mint tea, wheat toast and a poached egg at her side, the magic begins.
She teaches a variety of workshops and does live painting demonstrations at shows and exhibitions around the country. Her art is currently presented in New Masters Gallery in Carmel, California, Illume Gallery West in Phillipsburg, Montana, and Reinert Fine Art in Charleston, South Carolina.
