Enjoy this 4th of July Weekend!

Live oak tree with Spanish moss. When there is a slight wind it’s the most beautiful sight in the world. You think to yourself “How am I lucky enough to live in such a beautiful place?” – This is the tree that our sunroom faces in our front yard. It blows me away every single day. Between the tree and the happy Cardinals going about their business in the nearby shrubs it makes the sunroom feel like a nature oasis, yet cool when viewed on this hot day from indoors.

The swaying moss really is a sight to behold. I’ve never seen Spanish moss until I moved to Charleston, SC, many, many years ago. I never take these sights for granted, each one is precious. We live in an older neighborhood (99 years old) that used to be a cabbage field. Those who built these homes (beginning back in the 1920’s) had the brilliant thought to plant a Live Oak in every front yard on Stocker Drive and Beverly Road. When we moved here the street was like a tunnel of Live Oaks. Now Beverly Road is pretty much the same.

Well, it’s almost the 4th of July – so for those of you with dogs you know what to do. Break out the soft music, happy voices, and spend some cuddle time with your pets. This is a stressful time for many of them. Our dog barked at fireworks. They made his quiet world loud and he wasn’t taking it, ha ha. Our first Jack Russell was a hot mess with thunder and fireworks. He would try to get on a shelf in the bathroom to hide from the noise. I tried to soothe him, but he wasn’t having it.

With our second Jack Russell, I tried something different, act happy, smile, laugh, sing when there were loud noises like fireworks and thunder. He was OK with it from Day 1. But, I suspect it wasn’t from my reaction (although I do think it helped) – he was a tough cookie, not afraid of a thing.

If you’re shooting off fireworks this weekend, please be careful – I saw a photo of a relative who’s a surgeon sewing fingers back on in the OR. #goodtimes You might want to skip that kind of “good time” – I suspect it doesn’t feel so great. Bless her for loving what she does! Apparently, the ER’s are busy with those types of injuries. #crazy #goreadabook #winkwink
