Erik Koeppel. His paintings are so well executed, they are reminiscent of paintings from long ago. Erik captures the landscape and even the atmosphere! This Monhegan painting is a beauty. If you aren’t familiar this painting is Monhegan Island in the foreground and Manana Island in the distance. Barb Sohn. An amazing artist from Canada. Her paintings of islands grabbed my attention on Instagram – there is nothing like a vacation to an island (of any kind) – and she captures them so perfectly! I love the bright colors in her paintings! Don’t you feel like you are getting ready to go out on the water in a boat when you look at this painting… Nice!
Hester Berry. An artist from the UK with a wonderful and loose painting style. I love her strokes of paint, each deliberate and geometrical in a way. Love the light in the clouds and on the beach. Alberto Ortega – an artist originally from Spain now living in North Carolina. The way he captures every day living is so unique. Mark Farina. He paints all subjects – all are just beautiful. It looks like most of Mark’s work is plein air (painted from life – outdoors) – he’s able to catch the spontaneity of changing light/colors. Mark’s studio paintings have the same fresh feel to them, they aren’t overdone – which is no easy feat!
Leonard Chmiel. A very talented artist who’s work is breathtaking. I was zipping through Instagram and saw this painting. What a beauty! The reflections in the water are so peaceful, so soothing – I could just look at this all day long.
Rachel Pettit. Rachel is an artist from the Utah area – her paintings are stunning, I love the way she captures light and the overall feel of the area she is painting.
Nicholas Coley. Now this is a talented artist with a very cool story – don’t miss it! I love the perspective of his paintings – it’s a bit different from the norm and I think it’s so interesting. My emails back and forth with Nick and with his wife, Tracy, tell me one thing… these are good people. It’s not easy to make a living from selling paintings, but it doesn’t surprise me that Nick can do just that. Philip Barter – a Maine artist that is not afraid of color. He uses bold, dynamic shapes to give his paintings a signature touch. You can spot one of his paintings immediately. This is such a happy Maine painting!

Philip Barter was born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine in 1939 and has always had an interest in art. He studied with Spanish abstract expressionist Alfonso Sosa in California in the 1960’s, and also with Fritz Rockwell after returning to Maine. He was influenced by their use of bold form and color. Since the time that Philip started exhibiting in the 1960’s, his work has been shown in major museums and collections world-wide, and can be seen exhibited in galleries in and around Maine.
