I LOVE this painting. It’s perfectly spectacular, just look at the movement! Can you not feel the sand between your toes? Hear the call of the ocean? Feel the sun so strongly almost lulling you into a wonderful zen type calmness? The foam, the tufts of water high in the air, the horizon with the pinks and blues against the wonderful green in the water. The sun poking through the water brilliantly. WOW. So much feeling in one painting. AND guess what – it, along with 34 other paintings will be on sale on 11/1 – Here are the details…

Guess the Artist #37 | Detroit Institute of Arts

I love that paintings can be like a snapshot in time. Akin to a photo but with more imagination and feeling. You can feel the wonder, the water, the joy at being on the beach and in the water – or is it a miserably hot day and some are seeking refuge in the cool water? I don’t know anything about this painting – I love to find scoop… Can you guess the artist? #letmeknow

This is such a striking and happy painting. This artist captured the joy, the emotions! The laughter, the sweet child, the laughing women – all fabulous. Add in a bit of the unexpected such as a bird on the table and what a painting! Now, who painted this? #doyouknow

My husband said this painting reminds him of our time at the Island Inn during dinner while eating by himself while I was outside taking photos of the most stunning sunsets you can ever imagine. The beauty of their sunsets defy logic. Who could resist? I was only gone a minute or two (I wasn’t the only one!) ok, maybe 3-4 max.

Beautiful painting, right? I bet a lot of you know exactly where this is located. A place we all love and admire. I love this painting in so many ways. Charlie, looks exactly like he used to when he would come into the sunroom and jump up on one of the teak chairs where he would bask in the sun and ultimately take a nap. Oh, the life of Charlie – it was good.

Janette Jones. A wonderful artist from California. I featured Janette back in 2017, a wonderful oil painting with geraniums – beautiful! I love the happiness of this painting, fabulous colors, beautifully painted flowers, so you know what they are without every single detail.

It’s hard to imagine how some artists are able to capture the little things about an animal without ever meeting them. Charlie had a funny sit, we called it his “old man sit”. He would sit like this when very relaxed. This is one of the treasured pieces we have of Charlie. We always have our eye on him…

James Richards. An accomplished artist from Georgia, there is literally nothing this man can’t paint. His ability to capture the very soul of his subject is astounding. No wonder he is such a sought after instructor (workshop information below) – James’s paintings sell like hot cakes – and they reside all over the world and in some of the most distinguished of places.

What a wonderful painting, right? How are some artists able to pick up on the little things that make our creatures come alive in a painting? Especially without ever meeting the animal. The funny little sit that he had at times and this look, the “stink eye” look he often gave. It meant “now!” (In terms of carrot treats, cucumber treats, breakfast/lunch/dinner, evening walk, etc.).

Kayla Martell. Her paintings stopped me in my tracks as I was zipping through Instagram. Zing, zing – whoa! Back up… WOW! Her paintings are out of this world and she has a sense of humor with her Instagram, which I love. I am drawn to paintings of interiors. Not all interiors, they have to have that magic pop that makes it feel real, more like a story.

James Richards. One of the best artists I know. Not “just” an award winning artist but a person who cares, who makes it his mission to share his passion for painting with others. I met James many years ago during an art walk. He was set up to do a demo and it was awe-inspiring. He explained what he was doing and why, he worked quickly, efficiently – and everyone was blown away with the result. I swear, he has this “understanding” with paint – he steps up to the easel and is like a paint whisperer. Quickly, calmly laying down brush strokes until a masterpiece has been created. And… he knows when to stop. Every time.
