Quiet Reflections…

Coastal Maiine

Look at this sky! This photo from the coast of Maine is very fitting for this time of year. Short daylight hours, the wild clouds in the sky. That wonderful light, however fleeting.

I think spending time after Thanksgiving reflecting on all you have to be grateful for is the perfect way to fast forward you into the upcoming year. Time flies so quickly!

Photo from the archives: Nothing like a river sunset!

A Michigan Sunset | ArtFoodHome.com

Is there anything better than watching a sunset or sunrise? I absolutely love it. It makes you realize there is something out there greater than yourself. This is sunset from my parents front porch. I love this river. But the river with a sunset… WOW!

I have many photos of a stunning sunrise or sunset. There is something so magical about them. Have you noticed how quickly the sun sets? Once it starts going down, towards the end you can basically watch it drop behind the horizon. It’s amazing.

A happy mistake…

Have you ever had your camera on the Manual setting by mistake? Sigh… at first I was disappointed and then I thought that the photos I took (my profile pic on FB being one) looked pretty cool, almost like they had an Instagram filter applied to them. Let’s just go with that, shall we? ;)

View from the lighthouse on Monhegan Island…

IMG_4302

This is a view from the lighthouse on Monhegan, Maine.. A foggy day that was just spectacular. This proves you don’t always need the sun shining. Absolutely beautiful!

This is one of those times I didn’t have my camera, so this is with my phone, it did pretty well considering the distance. You get an idea of the magnitude of this island. The other island you see is Manana Island.

Workhorse – Port Clyde, Maine

DSCN3722

This boat looks like a real workhorse. Fishing can be dangerous and physically very difficult. When their boats are in the harbor they are beautiful. Not beautiful in a sparkly kind of way, more like natural beauty…

Raspberry Island!

DSCN3717

View of Raspberry Island from Port Clyde, Maine. I love the peacefulness of this area. It feels like heaven to me!

There is a wonderful painting of Raspberry Island by artist Jerry Weiss that we ran across in Charleston, SC one day! It was an art gallery (no longer in Charleston), and they had it on an easel near the door. We walked by and Fred spotted it right away.

Life the way it should be… not “perfect Maine”, just life, the way it should be…

mom hiking monhegan w stick 2009

Monhegan. Maine. Can’t get either place (Monhegan… or Maine) off of my mind. Of course I say that only being there in the fall. Never in the summer or winter… so, that’s like visiting Charleston when it’s not hot, humid and packed with people. I know that. But have you ever had a feeling that you were supposed to be somewhere? Where it was so hard to leave that it just didn’t feel right? That’s Maine for us. But our short time there gets us through. We aren’t talking “perfect Maine” that you see all over town, just real life Maine…  We feel fortunate to be able to keep in touch with the rest of our extended family that all feels the same way!

I have family that also feels that way. They love Maine just as much as we do. This is a photo of my mom hiking in Cathedral Woods (Monhegan) years ago. I love this photo! Well… today is my mom’s birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! Hop on a plane and come to Charleston, hee hee… we can celebrate! Have the best birthday ever!

Do you have a place that pulls you back time after time? Let me know!

Sunset chasers…

Pemaquid area of Maine IMG_4646

When Fred and I were in Maine we saw some spectacular sunsets. Our last night we took a drive to Pemaquid Point area, saw the sky light up near the beach, BUT the sunset was around the bend…

So, we hopped in the car and off we went until we found it!

You’ve heard of STORM CHASERS, right? Those people that chase dangerous storms so they can video/photograph? Well, this is the watered down version… Fred and I are sunset chasers, ha ha… there is just nothing like a good sunset!
