Western North Carolina – Thoughts on Helene…

Almost all of us have witnessed the endless images of destruction from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Helene. Helene came onshore as a Category 4 hurricane near Cape Fear, FL on September 26, 2024 – a few short days ago. From there the devastation continued through Georgia, South Carolina and Western North Carolina… In Charleston, Helene passed as a tropical storm from quite a distance away, but the wind effects felt stronger and lasted longer than some hurricanes in recent memory.

Had to include one more… I would say she nailed it! Millie has a fabulous website, here is just a short blip (read more on her website) about her…

I love to paint from life and I love to be outdoors, so naturally painting en plein air is a good fit for my art. During the spring and fall, I spend a lot of time painting field studies. From those studies, I paint larger pieces in the studio. I don’t use photographs at all. I paint what I know, and what I love is nature. My favorite subjects are big open fields, sunrises, sunsets, trees, the lowcountry, and the southland. I use a limited palette of primary colors. In my work I strive to bring my viewer into the painting and let them make it their own experience.

Featured Artist… Bill Davidson!

PleinAirPainting by BillDavidson BDFB

Plein air painting by Bill Davidson

WHOA, right?! LOOK at this painting by Bill Davidson. I mean REALLY look at it. The mountains are magnificent, the deep shadows and that oh-so wonderful sunlight hitting in just the right place, the rocks and shore in the foreground is gorgeous against the water. THE WATER. Looks so real I swear I just saw a fish jump! The lights, the darks, the warm and cool the very loose style with which the paint is applied is stunning. This image comes from Bill Davidson’s Facebook page. I look so forward to seeing what’s next! Each and every painting is gorgeous! And lucky you… he gives workshops! So if you’re interested be sure to check out his website or Facebook page!

Bill does show his work at a fabulous gallery here in Charleston, SC – M Gallery of Fine Art check out their website as well, or better yet, if you’re in the area be sure to stop in. That’s one gallery you don’t want to miss!
