Summer Reads – Here are some of mine, what are yours?

Ahhh, a good book, is there anything like it? Especially during trying times like we’ve seen in 2020. Reading is the great escape, you can travel to faraway lands from the comfort of your chair with an iced tea in your hand. #winwin

I use an app/website to keep track of the books that I’ve read as well as the books that I still want to read, it’s called GOODREADS.com, check it out! I check out the reviews, but only the ones that don’t describe the storyline, I like to figure that out for myself.

I started Mary Alice Monroe‘s Beach House Series a while back, and I was delighted to pick up another one, SWIMMING LESSONS, right before our library closed during the stay at home order that was happening all over the world due to the Coronavirus. Once our library opened back up (woohoo!) we can now order online and schedule to pick the books up (we still can’t go in the library, which is to keep us safe and to keep them safe) – and that’s fine! It’s just nice to be able to check out a few books again. I’m currently reading BEACH HOUSE FOR RENT and it’s just as fabulous as the rest of the books in the series! I have one more book in this series and then I’ll start another series, I’m looking forward to it. I’ve learned so much about the turtles from her books. They are amazing creatures! If you haven’t read the series, it’s wonderful! Check out the “Beach House Series” link above for more info! Mary also has a new book out (cannot wait to read it!) ON OCEAN BOULEVARD!! It’s getting great reviews, like all the others!

I recently finished Jan Moran‘s book SEABREEZE INN, the first book in the Summer Beach series, I really enjoy her style of writing. I saw online that our library had another of Jan’s books: THE WINEMAKERS: A NOVEL OF WINE AND SECRETS, so I picked that one up as well! I first heard about Jan from Elin Hilderbrand, another favorite author, along with Nancy Thayer, Wendy Wax, Dorthea Benton Franks, and so many others!

WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING by Delia Owens is a book that I’ve heard so much about. Everyone loved it. My sister was in town and picked up a copy at Costco and sent it to me when she was done. So I’ve been hanging on to it as an emergency-the-library-may-close-again type deal… however, I think I will have to give in and read it!! Another I had in my emergency stash from the library books sale is TRIBUTE by Norah Roberts. Not sure how one person can write so many books. I haven’t read one of hers in years, but I have this… you know, for emergency – until I get a new emergency book, then I can read this one. I have rules. Hehe. #1: Cannot be without a book to read.

What are some of the books you’re reading this summer? How do you keep track of all you read? I don’t do horror… I watch that on the nightly news, no need to read it too.

Hi Barbara! Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve been reading All Summer Long and Plantation by Dorothea Benton Frank, Whisper Network by Chandler Baker, Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. I’m on the waiting list for Educated by Tara Westover, The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow, and Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. I’m a daily painter and have a fun little project going where I collect words and phrases from a book I am reading or have read and title the painting with that word or phrase. Recently, I’ve been listing the book information along with my painting on my blog. Happy Reading! 🙂
