It’s hard to believe our winter is almost over. It definitely looks, sounds and feels like it. The camellia’s are blooming, the birds are chirping and the temps are warming (70’s/80’s). Most days have been nice, breezy – not much humidity, but every once in a while it sneaks in and reminds you of what’s to come…
It seems as if our temps have been more moderate the past few years compared to the north east. I joke with a friend in Maine that they are the “new south” – as their temps have increased in the summer – a few days surpassing ours! Luckily for them, it’s more of a fluke and doesn’t last an entire season (well, really almost 2 full seasons for us).
One of the best parts of spring to me are the blooms, and the SCENTS that come along with them. Shrubs like lagustrums smell amazing in the spring. They bloom like crazy and it’s like a strong candle of the very best kind. The gardenias and their signature scent makes me smile each and every time. A friend gave us a gardenia plant when our first dog passed away back in 2007. After keeping it in the house for a while, I knew it needed to go outside, but was so afraid it would die. It’s didn’t. It thrived, we bought several more and have planted them in between other shrubs. We will see a bloom at the most unexpected times (thank you Reggie 🌈🐾)!
Charleston’s azaleas are beginning their arrival – slowly for some – and quickly for others. I guess it depends how much sun they see. We live in an older neighborhood and most of these azaleas are the originals from when the house was built long ago.
Enjoy this special time of year – delight in every bloom you see. If you’re in a cooler region, spring is ON THE WAY! I promise! ☀️
👩💻 Until next time…
