Tired of Mosquitoes? Try this – Now is the time!

Do you live in an area with mosquitoes? I think a good many of us do and their population seems to be getting worse. If you want to avoid pesticides, mosquito spraying, chemicals, this is something to try – everything I read about it sounds like it really helps a lot. It may not be perfect, but after 30 years of trying pretty much everything – nothing is. The best part, it’s not harmful to you, your animals or birds, bees, etc. #happydance

We have two set up in our yard out of the way, placed in the shade, where – HOPEFULLY, they are going to draw mosquitoes (by releasing carbon dioxide), the mosquitoes lay their eggs and they don’t survive. This does not kill the mosquitoes that lay their eggs, only the eggs. But, eventually the mosquito population dwindles.

Here’s the plan of action…

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 2 dark (black) pails/buckets (you can put chicken wire overtop to prevent anything from falling in)
  • 1 big grab of leaves, weeds, straw to ferment and make the action happen faster
  • 1/4 -1/2 of a mosquito dunk per pail
  • 1/2 bucket of water

It couldn’t be easier. Assembling what you need takes the most amount of time. Finding a black pail/bucket it took some research – I used a Leaktite Black 5 gal Plastic Paint Pail (purchased at ACE HARDWARE) – check availability online before you head to a store. It’s a hot item!

Fill pail halfway with water, add a big grab of weeds and plunge into the water, add 1/4 – 1/2 mosquito dunk.

Place the bucket away from where you are, in the shade. If you place it near where you’ll be in your yard they will come to you – so don’t put it near where you’ll be.

Repeat every 3-4 weeks. One video I watched she said 1/4 of a dunk, but she said she uses 1/2. Reading the package it looks like you could use 1/4, but I’m going big guns with 1/2.

Let me know if you’ve tried this. I’ve read a lot about it and most people have great reviews! #worthatry
