Do you live in an area with mosquitoes? I think a good many of us do and their population seems to be getting worse. If you want to avoid pesticides, mosquito spraying, chemicals, this is something to try – everything I read about it sounds like it really helps a lot. It may not be perfect, but after 30 years of trying pretty much everything – nothing is. The best part, it’s not harmful to you, your animals or birds, bees, etc. #happydance

You would never know this was a weekday, midday – cloudy, out running errands, we stopped by a local garden center and whoa!I just snapped a quick photo – I’m telling you stunning flowers and plants everywhere you look! This is one of the favorite locations that people head to when it’s time to start planting flowers. Plants & flowers make us all happy, don’t they? Where was I when I took this photo?

It’s been a cold harsh winter here in Charleston, SC 😉 – for us… BUT, absolutely nothing compared to other parts of the country – that’s for sure. A week here or there of brutally cold temps is nothing (and not even considered “brutally cold” elsewhere). Temps this week ranging from 70-80 degrees for the next ten days. SO, when is it safe to begin planting? It’s difficult to pass by wonderful nurseries and see GORGEOUS flowers and want to load up and get planting, right?
Continue reading “With Spring Right Around the Corner WHEN is the Best Time To Start Planting?”Aren’t they gorgeous? I love to see a beautiful citrus tree in a huge pot – it really can make a bold statement. We don’t have one but we’ve looked at them. Charleston, SC is Zone 9 for plants, so it’s pretty tropical but we do get an occasional frost. That being said, there are many (MANY) citrus trees around here. A neighbor has a giant old (grapefruit or very, very large lemon) tree in his backyard FILLED with grapefruit looking fruit.

This reminds me of the tissue paper flowers I made in grade school, does anyone remember those? I took this photo in Summerville, SC a few weeks ago. I saw on a post from last year that I took a photo of the same stunning bush of flowers, but a month earlier. They were darker in color and just as stunning. I did a reverse Google search to figure out what it’s called…

Pure brilliance. I get so many great ideas wandering around garden centers. They just have a special touch and unique vision that can bring the unexpected together…

Well, you made it to mid-week! So happy hump day (Wednesday) – woohoo! This is an older photo (last September) – it looks like a bouquet of flowers I bought at Whole Foods. I’ll pick up the $5.99 bouquet if they’re fresh and ready to bloom soon (sometimes two). This was a pretty explosion of color…

Skimming through my photos and I ran across this beauty – the epitome of fall. And, WHO doesn’t love fall? It’s my absolute favorite season because it means I’ve gotten through a very hot, humid summer. Although summer was very warm, we had a slight cooling after July. The weather wasn’t cool, it was still humid but not quite as hot (or at least to me), what a joy! #rejoiceinthelittlethings

Sunflowers are so interesting and so perfect for an August post. We had a young entrepreneur in our neighborhood selling sunflowers (for a great price) a while back. I snapped a photo of the sunflower as it turned to look out the front window. They have such charisma.

Seriously! Look at these lively pink blooms. What show-offs they are. Every one of them dancing in the window, swaying to the butterflies and the bees that surround them and look so happy. I love the bright pink against the darkness. Stunning. They look at bit like fireworks, don’t they? Peaceful fireworks!

These happy pink flowers are so stunning. I look at them most of the day, they make me smile every time. Last year we had two, this year we have more, and I could happily have an entire yard full of them. The bees are very happy, which makes me happy.
Continue reading “An Explosion of Truffula Pink!”Magnolia trees in Charleston, SC for the most part are large trees with flowers to match. Big, beautiful and stately. They exude a sweet, mellow, wonderful scent into the air. You might see magnolia scent added to candles and diffusers for good reason. Everyone seems to adore this sweet, sometimes spicy, scent. Their leaves on the other hand can be a force to be reckoned with. They don’t break down and they rustle loudly underfoot. One thing is for sure, the beauty is worth the work!

Spectacular, right? I think Dahlias demand attention – and they easily receive it. They’re beautiful in a vase or left outside, they are stunning in every way. A starburst of color and perfection. I’ve seen them in Maine (gorgeous) and North Carolina (breathtaking), and have always envied them. I don’t recall seeing them growing in the Charleston, SC area. Charleston can get quite warm and humid, maybe that’s why…

We bought one of these pink flowers a few years ago to try and it was AH-mazing! Planted it in a pot in the spring and it bloomed until winter. I snipped blooms off, a few at a time, and put in small vases. It’s the happiest plant ever. Highly recommend!
