Do you have a favorite room in your house? One that you gravitate to? Oddly enough, I gravitate to this space during hurricanes and storms (unless there’s a lot of lightening). It’s an out of this world space, spectacular watching this stunning live oak’s Spanish moss dance in the wind. The smaller protected dogwood beside it was beautiful this year. I usually head out to this room in the afternoon.

Sun, sun, sun, sun, sun… If you love a lot of sun, Charleston, SC is the place for you! I ran across this photo from a few years ago when we had our window box planted with Impatiens. Beautiful! We need to pull it out and replant the same thing. Over the years we’ve tried different plants – lighting has changed over the years as the Live Oak tree has grown so beautifully. More shade, less sun. Impatiens offer the beautiful color and can handle shade. They just can’t handle the hot afternoon sunshine.

FLOWER SALE $5! What a deal… I headed out on a morning walk via a different route. I ran across this sweet flower stand – what a brilliant idea for a flower sale! $5 – beautiful flowers, herbs and it was actually quite pretty to look at as we passed by. So smart, they have the flowers in glass jars, if you buy it you just leave the glass jar and use a plastic cup to get it home (of course you can recycle the cup or bring it back and they can reuse it).

It’s been a cold harsh winter here in Charleston, SC 😉 – for us… BUT, absolutely nothing compared to other parts of the country – that’s for sure. A week here or there of brutally cold temps is nothing (and not even considered “brutally cold” elsewhere). Temps this week ranging from 70-80 degrees for the next ten days. SO, when is it safe to begin planting? It’s difficult to pass by wonderful nurseries and see GORGEOUS flowers and want to load up and get planting, right?

Seriously! Look at these lively pink blooms. What show-offs they are. Every one of them dancing in the window, swaying to the butterflies and the bees that surround them and look so happy. These happy pink flowers are so stunning. I look at them most of the day, they make me smile every time. Last year we had two, this year we have more, and I could happily have an entire yard full of them. The bees are very happy, which makes me happy.

Spectacular, right? I think Dahlias demand attention – and they easily receive it. They’re beautiful in a vase or left outside, they are stunning in every way. A starburst of color and perfection. I’ve seen them in Maine (gorgeous) and North Carolina (breathtaking), and have always envied them. I don’t recall seeing them growing in the Charleston, SC area. Charleston can get quite warm and humid, maybe that’s why…

We bought one of these pink flowers a few years ago to try and it was AH-mazing! Planted it in a pot in the spring and it bloomed until winter. I snipped blooms off, a few at a time, and put in small vases. It’s the happiest plant ever. Highly recommend!
