Who doesn’t love art, right? Art enriches our lives in so many ways. It promotes creativity, makes people happier and it can be used to hold on to special memories. We often buy a piece of art when we visit a new location and see someone capture it well. It’s a remembrance so that every time you look at that painting (or photograph, sculpture, etc.) it brings back a good time. You always have the chance to create your own art…

Featured Artist: Kevin Beers – Show at Gleason Fine Art!

Five Lobster Boats by Kevin Beers 18″ x 24″ Oil

Kevin Beers. Kevin is an artist we met years ago on Monhegan Island (Maine). He was the artist carrying a huge canvas and easel to plein air paint (paint outdoors) – you see many artists with their easels on Monhegan, but you don’t typically see a canvas as large as Kevin’s. He has the ability to capture the vibe of the island so well. The peace and tranquility, the “back in time” (ish) feeling that Monhegan represents. Hardworking people, lobster men (and women), these people are brilliant, creative and lose a bit of their island during the busy months (to tourists) – I think most (from what I’ve heard and read) enjoy once the island quiets back down and they head into the colder months. On an island. Ten miles off the coast of Maine. With high winds at times and rough seas. #blessem

Over the years we had good times talking with Kevin while he was painting – we’ve all kept in touch over the years which is the best part of life, right? Keeping up with good people!

Guess the Artist #3 | Detroit Institute of Arts

Can you guess today’s artist? (Answer below) – Just look at these expressions, one of concentration and the young boy, what is his expression? I’m not finding information on what this painting is about? Does anyone have insight? The color palette is stunning – the young boy captures my attention and holds my eyes until I can almost not let go. Mesmerizing.

Guess the Artist #2 (Detroit Institute of Arts) Do you know?

Image taken at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)

Ok, I think I gave y’all a toughie for the very first Guess the Artist (at the Detroit Institute of Arts) last week. So I’m making it a little easier this week. Do you have any idea what artist has such a style? I can tell you (as you can see), their style is definitely different. High five to the Detroit Institute of Arts for having a stunning (and extremely large!) collection of the most magnificent paintings. It’s amazing to watch people looking at the paintings. Each deep in thought – each painting touches us differently. All are fabulous! Next Monday, a new chance to guess!

Read on for this week’s answer:

Featured Artist: Colin Page | A Painter with Passion!

Again Tomorrow by Colin Page | 40″ x 40″ | Oil on Canvas

Colin Page, a remarkable person, cool dad, and a friend and mentor to so many artists. Colin is uber creative and his paintings offer a fresh perspective. His color palette (love) and the subject of his paintings (also love) are out of this world and diverse. After much deliberation I chose to feature the painting, Again Tomorrow. I’ve always been a fan of Colin’s table top scenes, they’re so creative! He can paint a still life in the most interesting way – and to read that each painting has meaning & memories is very cool. It’s akin to a singer that sings with passion. A painter that paints passionately will turn out stunning paintings with a depth that is hard to replicate.

Guess the Artist #1 – Detroit Institute of Arts?

Can you guess who the artist is from today’s painting? (If you see this on social media, head over to artfoodhome.com to see the answer!) What an incredible venue the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is! Mind blowing paintings everywhere you look. Artifacts from so long ago it’s hard to believe (saw a vase from 4,000 years ago in pristine condition)! I used to love the mummy – it mesmerized me. I didn’t see the mummy this trip. The DIA is run like a well-oiled machine. If you get too close to a painting an alarm will sound and there are many DIA people constantly walking by, so they are near in case the unexpected happens.

Jessica Lee Ives | Light Shapes Life Show at the Lupine Gallery (Monhegan, ME)!

Light, Water, Magnetism by Jessica Lee Ives, Oil, 40″ x 60″

Jessica Lee Ives. I love how she’s able to portray her subjects in the water. Whether it’s floating, jumping, diving – the view from underwater is magnificent. Jessica captures her subjects well, the ripple of the water, the COLOR of the water, the light reflecting off of the water – all are difficult, yet Jessica masters each so well.

Featured Artist: Lisa Shimko

Home Roseate Home by Lisa Shimko 48″ x 24″ Acrylic on Canvas

Lisa Shimko. An artist with quite an imagination – her paintings are vibrant, have a fun, story-like vibe to them. They’re happy, energizing pieces that will bring a smile to your face wherever you hang them. I want you to know, Lisa’s website has more than her paintings – it has information regarding flooding events, which in our (Charleston, SC) area have become a real concern for the future.

Featured Artist: Brett Gamache!

Rock Islands by Brett Gamache | 16″ x 20″ | Oil on Linen

Brett Gamache. He has a style that is so unique. When you think about how many artists there are – it’s amazing that some artists can really stand out – I love when when I can look at a painting and know who painted it. I love running across an artist that I have somehow (how???) missed along the way. I hate that it’s taken me so long to feature Brett. But happy that I have!

Featured Artist: Joyce Hicks!

Laurel Mountain Highlands Farm by Joyce Hicks 18″ x 24″ Watercolor

Joyce Hicks. Beautiful work – right now I am mesmerized by watercolor paintings, and Joyce’s are no exception. Beautiful work. I love how she will sometimes show the actual image of what she painted alongside the painting. Wow, she makes everything so beautiful. It’s like walking around with a filter that makes everything look so nice.

Featured Artist: Garry Kravit!

Never Again (Tribute to Federal Flight Deck Officers) by Garry Kravit 12″ x 20″ Oil

Garry Kravit. Love his paintings. This painting in particular is especially touching given the subject matter. Garry seems to be an interesting guy. An artist that paints all over the world – and he just happens to be a Boeing 777 Captain for a major U.S. airline. How interesting would it be to fly all over the world – and in your spare time have the ability to paint some pretty cool subjects? Garry can paint a wide variety of subjects – each as fabulous as the next!

Featured Artist: Tony Warren!

Tony Warren. Super nice guy and a WOW artist! There is something special about his watercolor paintings. I love them. There is a freeness to them. Years ago my sister attended a demo or workshop and came home with a painting. I can picture it now, such a great little painting – she learned a lot. Isn’t that the best kind of workshop? The low-pressure/learn a lot/have a good time type of workshop. You simply can’t beat it!
