Island Inn Monhegan, Maine…

Trying to catch up after several days of no wifi and lots of yard cleanup after hurricane Matthew, back to normal posting next week (artists, recipes, house plans), for now enjoy the images!

Island Inn, Monhegan Maine

We are back from a wonderful stay at the Island Inn, Monhegan, Maine. If you are looking for a wonderful inn, with fabulous food, and views to die for, this is the place for you. The people who work there become family. We all can’t wait to get back. Home away from home, if only for a few days!

Stormy Skies – Rockport, Maine

Camden, Maine

Rockport, Maine. We had driven around on this day, back off the island from Monhegan – checking out Camden and Rockport. The dark skies were rolling in. Funny, it never rained, just looked like it was going to! Isn’t the light against the dark skies amazing? Mother Nature has a way, wow.

(I originally had this photo labeled as Camden, ME – thank you Linda!!)

Beauty!

I could ride around Maine taking photos of sunrises, sunsets, clouds and beautiful roads forever and ever. Everywhere you look there is something else that catches your eye. I just love this setting!

The Road Home… Well, Kind Of…

The Road Home

I like to think of this as THE ROAD HOME… although it was actually on the way to the airport, never a happy day. Maine is so beautiful, it’s hard to leave. But, we appreciate our time there SO much!

Sept sunrise, Waldoboro, ME

A September sunrise in Waldoboro, Maine. Quite the beauty, isn’t it? There was this bright white streak that went across the sky, it was amazing! One of those, where it catches your eye through the window and you grab your camera and run in your PJ’s before its gone!

Sunflower and Uncle Henry’s in Fog – Monhegan Island.

Monhegan Fog | barbara stroud

Stunning! I have taken so many photographs over the past few years of this very spot. In sun, light, shadow, but this year I was able to add fog to the list. I truly enjoyed those few foggy days. It kept things cooler, which I wanted more than anything! For those of you familiar with Monhegan, this is the view as you walk from the Lupine Gallery back towards the Island Inn – this is on your right – Uncle Henry’s, an iconic cottage that sits majestically on that hill between the wharf and the Island Inn.

It was really nice to catch up with friends – can’t wait until next year!

Monhegan Sunrise… From the archives!

I took this photo of the lighthouse on Monhegan back in 2014. There is nothing that can get me out of bed faster than a sunrise of this magnitude! Everything about it was stunning. The light spilled across to Manana (Island) and into the water. The island was floating in this beautiful pinkish orange. I feel so blessed to have witnessed this!

(Another) Monhegan Sunset

Looking towards Manana from Monhegan

A sunset photo, taken from the Island Inn porch. These sunsets mesmerize me! This was taken looking towards Manana Island (the wharf has a light).

The color, THOSE SWIRLS OF CLOUDS, the dramatic coastline – wow, Wow, WOW!

I thought this peaceful photo was a good one for 9/11 – thinking of all those who were lost or lost loved ones, friends or acquaintances…

The Magnetic Pull of Monhegan, Maine

Monhegan

The magnetic pull of Monhegan, Maine. A panoramic from the hill near the Monhegan Museum & Lighthouse. What a view – it’s as if you can see forever! Of course this image is better larger (can click to enlarge), but you get an idea! There is a bench overlooking the cemetery, which is such a peaceful place to sit and just take it all in. Most of us would like nothing better than to never leave, however, that isn’t an option. So absorb it with every ounce of your being while you’re there! If you haven’t been – definitely add it to your bucket list!

Farmer’s Market Reminder!

Farmer's Market!

This photo is from the archives, but I thought I would post it today as a reminder not to miss your local Farmer’s Market! What better way to buy the freshest produce that is LOCAL! (Asparagus is no longer in season here in Charleston, SC – but right now we have so many options it will boggle the mind!) – I love the green against the pink rubber band – Wow!

Charleston, SC Voted #1 City in the World by Travel & Leisure Magazine!

Charleston, SC

Charleston, SC – it’s quite a city, that’s for sure! Charleston, SC has been voted the World’s Best City. Wow.

Last year we were number 2 on the list, still impressive – and we’re the number one city in the US and Canada for the fifth year in a row!

So, if you ever are wondering where to take a vacation, this is the place! I think I would plan ahead, I think it’s going to get busier!

From the historic treasures this city has to offer, to the beautiful architecture and food that will blow you away – it’s no wonder!

This blip about Charleston, SC – from Travel + Leisure’s website:

Charleston moved up from the No. 2 city in the world last year to No. 1. The city has shown incredible resilience and, as one reader wrote, there is still “no place quite like it.” In addition to historic battlegrounds and jasmine-scented streets, Charleston is home to award-winning hotels (including the Spectator, No. 2 in the world this year) and restaurants. Antebellum charm, excellent boutiques, and the beautiful waterfronts at Sullivan’s Island and Folly Beach make this city one of the most beloved in the U.S.—and now, the world.

That’s quite an honor –  Catch you back here tomorrow!
