56 years ago today… and a Port Clyde sunset!

PORT CLYDE, MAINE
PORT CLYDE, MAINE

I guess you could call this “taking a personal day” – there is a lot happening today!

This photo was taken back in 2008. My parents had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and they joined us in Maine. We had the best time… rented the coolest cottage on the ocean in Port Clyde, then headed to Monhegan. In this photo I zoomed in and cropped out the surrounding area… they were standing on the rocks looking out towards the ocean at sunset. Gorgeous isn’t it? I know they would like to be back there right now… as would we!

Maine is such a special place. I told Fred the first time we went… that I didn’t feel like I was supposed to leave, ha ha… What a place!

Hey, happy anniversary mom and dad! So this is your 56th Anniversary?!!!! Wow! Congratulations!!

Love you more than anything! xoxo, me

Oh! And a happy birthday to my sister Bridget who was born X-0 years ago this year! Woohoo! It only gets better from here, trust me ;) !!!!!

Catch you back here tomorrow!

Looks like a painting…

Sunset photo

Doesn’t this look like a painting? I love how some artists paint in the power lines, it really adds character. Same with street lights, especially in nocturnes, where they’re essential… This was a magical sunset on our way home from downtown… nice huh?

Catch you back here tomorrow!

Just look at this Charles Movalli painting… WOW! Happy 4th!

I’m quite positive I’ve mentioned this painting by Charles Movalli in a past post… I still remember walking into Bayview Gallery in Camden, Maine – looking where there were several large Charles Movalli paintings, each so very stunning. This man is talented beyond belief. I would love to meet him one day, he looks like such a cool guy. Whenever talking with other art loving people, if you mention his name, EVERYONE agrees that he is awesome in every single way. As an artist, as a speaker, as a person. You just can’t get any better than that!

Enjoy your 4th of July holiday!!

The STAR of the show!!

Absolutely the star of the show! It looks like there is a spotlight highlighting their beauty! I’ll try to calm down with the hydrangea photos… it’s just so exciting when you can go pick your flowers. I love that! There is just nothing better than fresh flowers to brighten a room!

What’s blooming in your area? Let me know! Happy Sunday! Catch you back here tomorrow!

The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From the Tree….

IMG_1106

You’ve heard the expression “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” meaning that you are a lot like your parents, whether you like it or not… ha ha… It’s so true, I’m like my mom in so many ways, but I’m also like my dad…

We love to collect art supplies, but are more hesitant to use them… sigh…

Technology… He was the first to get a digital camera, iPad and iPhone! It’s not easy keeping up with him!

Ahhh, technology… LOVE IT! HATE IT! Love it when it’s working… hate it when it’s not! It would be good if one of us were proficient, but we end up figuring things out.

So far.

Love to cook… although he likes more complicated recipes than I do… I tend to go for the quicker ones.

Maine… we all have a love for Maine. What’s not to love?

I am so fortunate/blessed/lucky/happy to have such a cool dad! Hey dad, just want you to know you are the best!!

Fred has his own apple doesn’t fall far from the tree story going on… he is so much like both of his parents…

His dad can fix anything, and now, so can Fred, he had a good teacher!

He shares a love of the outdoors, camping growing up, horses, time on a farm with his grandparents. Oh yeah, lots of similarities.

It’s funny how when you’re young you want to be DIFFERENT than your parents, then as you get old (and “old” is much, much older than what you first perceived it to be) you see how similar you are, and you know that it’s a good thing!

Think about your  own “Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” story…

Well, an unusually cold winter made way for a gorgeous spring, wow! Normally they bloom one at a time, this year… all at the same time! Gorgeous… and the gardenias… ahhhh the scent is fabulous!

The far left are the gardenias, then you see the yellow day lilies, the blue hydrangeas and peeking out in front of the hydrangeas… the Easter lilies! Love it!

Have a great weekend! Catch you back here tomorrow!

Some Sunday’s you just need to hang out…

Some days you just need to hang out!
Some days you just need to hang out!

This photo must have been taken back when we had cooler temps. Note the polar fleece cover for Charlie’s sofa? There is nothing this dog likes more than hanging out in his window… and some days you just need to hang out, don’t you?

I wish you a happy day of rest and relaxation! I think I will follow Charlie’s lead ;) – Move over Charlie!

Charlie’s in Charge!

Charles in Charge, hee hee… that’s me! Well, I don’t go by Charles, my name is Charlie! Thankfully my people changed my name because when I came into their lives my name was Rooster. Ugh. I know, Rooster? I definitely like “Charlie” much, much better!

I have decided to give my mom, Barbara, the day off… I mean look at this desk… it’s a mess! I told her I would take care of this post today (if she would please take care of the desk!). So here I am!

Hope you have all been well! I’m anxiously awaiting playing in the sprinkler, the heat is here and there’s nothing like the sprinkler to cool you off on a hot day!

She will be back to normal posting tomorrow!

WOOF to you all, enjoy your weekend!!

I thought this was the absolute perfect painting to showcase for Memorial Day.

Via wikipedia:

Memorial Day is a US federal holiday wherein the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces are remembered.

In the midst of celebrating today, please take a moment to remember all the heros, and their families…

Thank you just isn’t enough, is it?

Whether you are, want to be, tried to be or don’t want to be… this wish is for you!

IMG_0741

Happy Mother’s Day! But wait… before you say, “I’m not a mother”… this wish is for all of you who…

ARE a mom: I’m sure the joy is overwhelming, as well as the worry and stress, but the love… ahhh, that beats all, right? Know you are blessed…

WANT to be a mom: so it’s not your time yet, that’s OK. Enjoy your life, get out and do things so that once you do have children you don’t feel like you’re missing out!

TRIED to be: for all of you who have felt the heartbreak of wanting to be a parent, but having it not work out for one reason or another, I feel for you. I understand. I’m in the same boat. Find what brings you joy and move on with your life. You can spend forever on “what if’s” but you will be much happier if you move on… (such as) help out a friend with children, teach them something special, something important like being nice to others, volunteering, there are other options, not the ones you probably dreamed about, but life does get good again…

DON’T want to be: hey, everyone has a reason. If having children isn’t your deal, that’s fine. Help a friend with their child once in a while, or teach a child how to bake cookies, some cool, fun, important (cookie baking!) life skill!

To my mom, I would like to say that you are the absolute coolest mom and I love you to pieces… I wish we lived closer! AHHH… I’ve learned a lot from you, even though I don’t think you realized it. Like… the importance of saying no instead of being overwhelmed and miserable. My note taking surely I got from you, and that lead to my writing… I love to talk about cooking and recipes, food and health, books and so much more with you. I love knowing you’re on the other end of the phone when I call! Thank you for being my mom! I love you mom!!

To Fred’s mom, I would like to say that you are such a great role model, someone who is truly caring and shows it by helping others every chance you get. You are always there if we need you. We’re very fortunate to live close although we don’t see each other every day, its a nice feeling knowing that we can be there in a moments notice! It’s fun comparing our Dr. Oz notes and trying to keep up with what’s good for you and bad for you since it changes constantly! Thank you for being Fred’s mom! We love you!!

Ok, get out and do something good for someone. Make someone smile today.

MAKE.  SOMEONE.  SMILE.  TODAY…

Repeat tomorrow… and the next day… and the next day… and the next day… etc.

PS/ Thank you Kate Mullin for making the world a more beautiful place with your flower arrangements!

Tribute to a friend… one year ago today…

Screen Shot 2014-05-03 at 8.49.18 PM

Friends are more precious than gold.

This is a tribute to a friend… Scott Dulin. An amazing guy, so interesting and full of life. Fred and I met Scott on Monhegan Island (Maine)…. we quickly became friends and looked forward to arriving on the island at the same time the next year. We had fun, we talked until late, late… about everything. Scott was just such a nice guy, and it was nice to have a friend like him on the island. We would keep in touch throughout the year…

Life changes in the blink of an eye. Call or write your friends, let them know how important they are in your life.

Through the sadness there was a definite silver lining. We will always miss Scott and his smile, but through him we met his sister Jennifer. I feel like she is a sister to us as well, and we haven’t even met yet. We will meet Jennifer (pictured upper right with Scott) this year… can’t wait! I truly think he would be smiling knowing that we’ve become friends.

Big hug to you Jennifer… see you soon!

Also would like to say cheers to our friend… until we see you again…

Catch you back here tomorrow…

The grand oak trees in Charleston, SC

Our street in the spring
Our street in the spring

We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful area of Charleston, SC. The live oak trees that line our street are magnificent, grand and stately. They have grown together to form an arch which is so beautiful to see. Our neighborhood is protective of our trees. Can you imagine what it would look like without them? I hope I never have to know…

Just look at those shadows dancing in the street. Wow! This photo doesn’t do it justice…

If you have a spot, plant a tree… it’s good for the earth, the shade keeps your home cooler in the summer… makes a nice memorial or tribute to a friend or relative. We are only here a short time… make it beautiful while you can!

Catch you back here tomorrow!

Flowers at Easter Time – Charleston, SC

Unexpected and unique I said yesterday… regarding Charleston, SC. It is. You can walk around and see beauty everywhere. I suspect that its not just Charleston. If you have the right mindset, you can see something beautiful everywhere you go. It’s worth taking the time each day to find that one unexpected thing of beauty… and be grateful. Camelia’s this time of year are so pretty…

Enjoy your Sunday and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow!
