Low dew point and sunny skies = time to spend outdoors!

ArtFoodHome.com | barbara stroud | Charlie

We have had several weekends that have turned out to be so nice, warm but without the usual humidity that makes you stay indoors! We really enjoy our backyard during those days! Those are days to catch up on reading and spending time with Charlie… In this photo I ran in the house for something and he sat there patiently waiting. Notice he sits on the cushion and not the ground, sigh… You’ve trained us well Charlie!

Enjoy your weekend! Catch you back here tomorrow!

To roast, saute, bake and PHOTOGRAPH!

What a stunning display of color, don’t you agree? Just look at these beets. I always thought beets tasted like dirt, I was so wrong. If you roast them, they have a sweetness to them that you will not believe!  Give it a whirl!

You can roast them whole (scrub them good, cut off any leaves, but don’t peel). Then preheat oven to 375 F. Coat them with olive oil, then wrap in aluminum foil and place on a baking sheet. Roast 45-60 minutes (or until done). Remove from oven and let cool 10 minutes. Peel and slice into 1/4″-inch thick slices. Recipe: Bobbie Flay/Food Network

Ina Garten she peels, slices and roasts and then tops with orange juice, GOOGLE it! You won’t believe the wonderful combinations!

The Island House – Mackinac Island, MI

The Island House - Mackinac Island, MI |ArtFoodHome.com

I’m an island girl. I am fond of islands. Mainly where the weather is cool and there is a gorgeous landscape to be seen. Being at the Island House on Mackinac Island, MI where you can get up early, sit out on the porch in the dark cool weather sipping your hot coffee. It’s pure heaven to me! Then inside for a delightful breakfast and out to face the day! We haven’t been in some time… am looking forward to going back one day soon! The Island House is the white beautiful building with the reddish roof in this photo. It’s been around since 1852. I remember it when before it had air conditioning or an elevator, but it now has both! If you ever find yourself looking for a unique destination, Mackinac Island is beautiful, especially the back side of the island (bike rentals are available).

Port Clyde, Maine | ArtFoodHome.com

Several years ago we rented the coolest cottage in Port Clyde, Maine… The Periwinkle. Oh how I love that cottage. So cool, it was like a movie set inside. Very rustic, which was part of the charm, a large roaring fireplace and just steps from the ocean.

It was only a short walk to the Port Clyde General Store or to Marshall Point Lighthouse. I would like to live there, ha ha… Wouldn’t we all?

My mom and dad joined us for their 50th wedding Anniversary that year – way to go mom and dad! There aren’t a lot of people who can say that these days. I took this photo on that visit! I love it! So this year is their 57th Anniversary!! Woohoo, you guys are the best!

At a snails pace…

ArtFoodHome.com | barbara stroud

The heat/humidity = moving at a snails pace. Here’s proof, ha ha.

We often see snails slithering their way across the sidewalk, but I’ve never seen one with the shell. I just read about snails… how they create their shells from the liquid that oozes off of them (very technical explanation, eh?) – interesting…

Stay cool if you’re in a part of the world where the heat and humidity really up there right now!

Another charming home in Charleston, SC!

IMG_3059

Beautiful homes in Charleston, SC… there are many, but this is one of my favorites.  It’s the porch… how inviting is that? I would like to be on it right now!

Charleston has no shortage of stunning homes full of charm and plenty of character!

I have been signing off with “Catch you back here tomorrow”, but now I am considering something different… Have a second? Take the poll! It’s only a click!

A bit quirky?

barbara stroud | ArtFoodHome.com

Fred and I have started doing something over the past few years… it might be odd, but we like it… we’re removed some paintings from their frames. Not that the frames were bad, it’s just that we have so many paintings, and after a while it seems like you’re looking at so many frames it becomes distracting. We’ve taken a few paintings out of frames and have hung just the canvas over the years, and love it.

On left wall from top to bottom: Tim Bell, Marc Hanson, Dan Corey

On wall in front of you starting at top left and going clockwise: David Kasman, Marlee Brown, Don Stone and Ted Tihansky

Nothing like great memories, and each and every one of our paintings have just that!

Oh say can you see… Photo of the day…

Happy 4th of July, or more appropriately – Happy Independence Day! How many of you remember the words to the national anthem?

If you’re a little rusty, this is for you! Enjoy your day and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow!

Star Spangled Banner

O say can you see,
by the dawn’s early light,
what so proudly we hailed
at the twilight’s last gleaming,
whose broad stripes and bright stars,
through the perilous fight,
o’er the ramparts we watched,
were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare,
the bombs bursting in air,
gave proof through the night
that our flag was still there.
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
o’er the land of the free
and the home of the brave?

O thus be it ever,
when freemen shall stand
between their loved homes
and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace,
may the heaven-rescued land
praise the Power that hath made
and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must,
when our cause it is just,
and this be our motto,
“In God we trust.”
And the star-spangled banner
in triumph shall wave
o’er the land of the free
and the home of the brave!

Words by Frances Scott Key, 1814
