I started the ArtFoodHome.com daily (now 4 times/week) blog 1/1/11 (easy to remember, right?) and have kept it going since then. Come back each day - I share with you:
ART: featured artists, art events, workshops, etc.
FOOD: recipes, restaurants, and good finds along the way
HOME: house plans, home design, places here in Charleston...
On year 14 of artfoodhome.com - share this site with anyone who you think might enjoy it!
Isn’t it true that flowers equal smiles? They can lighten a gloomy day, bring brightness to a room and make it so cheery. Flowers are more than a beautiful, happy symbol. They truly make your heart happy. This was a spectacular bunch – stunning in every way… #thankyou
A few weeks ago we stopped for lunch at a favorite place and afterwards took a little walk around town. What a delight when we spotted a cool home store. They had the most delightful items, treasures! Furniture, lighting, candles, virtually anything that can make a house a home. Beautifully displayed, it was a treat to meander through the store. We look forward to getting back there soon. I love their vibe!
Another great book by Katherine Center. Her writing is like a breath of fresh air. Hectic day? No worries. Lots going on so hard to concentrate – you can still read this book. It’s light but deep enough that you stay immersed. The ending was brilliant! #didntseeitcoming This is a good one to add to your TBR list!
Some days we need peace, good thoughts, and to surround our thoughts with nature. Nature is one of the ultimate healers and the ultimate peace giver (🙏 being the other!) . Did you know that being outside is so good for you? It can calm your mind (whose doesn’t get riled up these days?) and heal your soul.

Well, “SNAP” as they say. Usually when I feature a Guess the Artist post, I like to give a little background on the painting or the artist (ideally, both!) – however, this painting must have been moved from the DIA (or is just not showing up at the moment on their website). This painting reminded me of kids getting ready for the first day of school, a little timely I suppose. Kids have already gone back to school in most SC schools, but this could still be relevant to some of you!
Do you have an idea who the artist is? Look no further… see below!
When the sunlight hits a special spot I run for my phone (camera) – sometimes I make it, sometimes I don’t – the light is fleeting, as in here one second, gone the next. I took photos of sunlight on the orchid on our coffee table, stunning, but the overhead shot (which I always love) won out.
Belle View 153140 House Plan by Allison Ramsey Architects
Who doesn’t love a great porch? This plan has exactly that – I love the side porch on the right, so wonderful! The good thing with (at least most) of these plans is that the architect(s) will customize them for you. Tell them your dreams and watch their creativity in action. #howexciting
Is there anything more comforting than a quick stir fry, with crunchy veggies that melt your heart? I think not. This was quick, and so good, especially with the already washed stir fry veg bag from Trader Joe’s (and the rice too!) I would like this dish just as much with no chicken. The veggies were that good!
Head’s up in case you haven’t seen the signs regarding a new law going into effect in South Carolina. Beginning September 1, No Hand-Held Devices… What does this mean exactly? What do you think about it? See the details below. It’s called the Hands-Free and Distracted Driving Law and it begins a week from today, Monday, September 1, 2025.
Now this is a beautiful place to stop and take a breath. Look around, take a walk, grab some seafood to take home and cook or stop at one of the restaurants. You definitely have options. The ability to walk to the end of this fabulous dock, talk to people fishing, etc and hang out at the end watching boat, kayakers, etc. It’s so lovely. A must see for sure.
Time flies. You may have read these words of mine before but the older I get the more I mean it. I am so thankful to have met my husband all those years ago (over 3 decades). We’ve hit milestones together and been there for each other every step of the way. Frederick, here’s to the next3+++decades of life with you!!
My first thought was why did I wait so long? I bought the (Lodge) cast iron skillet probably 5+ years ago. Never used it. Didn’t want something fussy to deal with. So I waited. Waited until I had a piece of meat with fat (rare) to “season” the (seasoned) pan. My Caraway nonstick skillet is no longer nonstick, despite meticulous care. So…
Guess the artist! Do you recognize the work by this popular artist? I took this image at the Detroit Institute of Arts a few years ago. Heavenly place to visit – if you ever get a chance to pop in, I cannot recommend it enough! If you’re wondering where the location of the subject of this painting is, read on for details from DIA.org! Answer below…
Another photo taken on James Island a few weeks ago. It’s so hard to drive by beautiful scenes without shouting STOP, ha ha… I love the reflections in the water, the dead branch which makes everything else seem so alive. Just beautiful! This isn’t far from where we live. Thankful to have the luxury of walking to beautiful spots – a lot of photos to be had!
Charleston, SC had a spell of very hot and humid weather (well, most of the country did, didn’t they?) so when we had a front blow in and block the sun, give us wonderful rain for the plants, flowers, trees, etc. and lower the temps to what we haven’t felt since April/Early May – it was the weather that dreams are made of. #iloveclouds
