Halloween Memories 👻

Charleston photo taken years ago – it has a nice Halloween vibe!

Happy Halloween! 🎃 It’s a day kids dream about – I remember it well (all those years ago!) going trick or treating with my sister. My mom would stay home and pass out candy and my dad would walk with us while we sang out TRICK OR TREAT and collected our candy. #goodtimes Although, my costume was usually upended by wild weather, therefore turning me into…

Happy Birthday Wishes To My Sweetheart!

My husband loves cake. LOVES cake! Photo is a cake we brought home on a trip a few years ago (details below) – it was fabulous (and I am *gasp* not a cake person)! This year we simply cannot eat an entire cake, so instead we’ll head to a good bakery for an assortment of cupcakes for him. I have plenty of candles and can sing Happy Birthday with each cupcake (haha – KIDDING!)…

Olive Tree, Charleston, SC!

Aren’t they beautiful? Spotted this olive tree while out and about a few weekends ago and thought it was pretty spectacular! You can’t just pluck an olive and eat it – I’ve read the taste is abhorrent at best, even if you love olives. They must be placed in a brine for a period of time. #nowyouknow But… they sure are beautiful!

My Husband, Top 10 U.S. National Champion 1994!

Thirty years ago (!!) this week, my husband was awarded a top ten US National Champion ribbon and plaque. He was one of the only riders who served as their own trainer. Of course, he didn’t do it alone, SGF Cimarron worked impeccably as he followed the given commands beautifully. This is one of the official photographs (taken by a real photographer – I have tried to find him to add a link but am unsure of the spelling as I have tried every possible configuration I can think of).

Preservation IS Progress in Charleston

Preserving the beauty of some of the older Charleston, SC neighborhoods is of paramount importance. Many neighborhoods have expressed interest in maintaining the character, flow, height/mass/scale of their area and hope for help avoiding demolition for the sake of “biggie-sizing”. We’re thankful the City of Charleston is working with us on a solution…

Ooh, La, La! Isn’t this a beauty?

We were in Summerville, SC the other day and on the way back to the car I noticed these STUNNING pink blooms. I had to make a quick detour to check them out and to admire the beauty (and of course to take a few photos!) – This is so beautiful. The flowers were large and various colors of pink, do you know what this is?

Plentiful Butterflies…

The butterflies are plentiful right now. Around certain plants they were swarming at this local nursery/design shop. They have gorgeous plants and flowers and the butterflies really gravitated towards some of them. To the point they were all around my head, ha ha. Just looking out of our windows I’m see so many, all different colors – just beautiful!

Book Suggestion – The Summer Pact by Emily Giffin!

Emily Giffin. I have never read this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect. First of all, I love the cover. How important is a book cover to you? Do you feel it should reflect the story within the pages? Or does it not matter to you? My personal opinion is that it matters a lot. From something I read I’m not sure the author gets a say (not sure if this is true). I enjoyed this book, which I read recently, here’s my review…

Thoughts regarding Hurricane Helene…

For over a week now we’ve seen so many images/videos coming out of the areas of the country that have been devastated by Hurricane Helene. So many of you have donated time, effort, monetarily and with much needed supplies. Groups of pilots (airplane and helicopter), seasoned hikers going into tough terrain, everyday folks doing the unthinkable to help their neighbors or total strangers…

Hurricane Helene Relief for NC, SC, TN, GA, FL…

I specifically mentioned Western North Carolina in a past post because we know several people who live in Waynesville, NC. There are so many areas that need disaster relief and basic necessities like food, water and gas after Hurricane Helene. If you can, pick one great place (or many!) and make a donation. I’m trying to find places where the money goes to the people and not to a corporation. Donate however you can, whether it be time, money, supplies, etc. the choice is yours.

Western North Carolina – Thoughts on Helene…

Almost all of us have witnessed the endless images of destruction from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Helene. Helene came onshore as a Category 4 hurricane near Cape Fear, FL on September 26, 2024 – a few short days ago. From there the devastation continued through Georgia, South Carolina and Western North Carolina… In Charleston, Helene passed as a tropical storm from quite a distance away, but the wind effects felt stronger and lasted longer than some hurricanes in recent memory.

Fall Is Upon Us…

Fall hit and the temps in Charleston rose. Hmmm. I think they’re supposed to drop a few degrees over the coming days, here’s hoping! Whether it’s a tad warm or not, you can still feel the fall vibe in the air. The sun has shifted dramatically. Sun that used to pour into the kitchen windows while making dinner now doesn’t come close. I love the subtle changes and I notice each one.
