Beautiful home in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI

Isn’t this a beautiful home in Grosse Point, MI? I snapped this a few months ago through the car window (sorry about that) – ahhh! The lines of this house are STUNNING! The windows really add to the charm. This home was for sale (a few months ago) – it was a little out of our price range, haha. This is a fine home – very big – and drop dead gorgeous!

A Quintessential Maine Cottage

A quintessential Maine cottage. I love the white picket fence with the beautiful flowers blooming like crazy. This cape style home is a beauty and is situated on the most magnificent island ever. You may have heard me speak of it…?? (HA) – Monhegan!

Oh to be a flower on Monhegan!

Oh to be a flower on Monhegan – with all the adoring fans constantly walking by shouting words of praise and whipping out their cameras/phones for a quick, yet exceptional photo.

I’ve always loved nasturtiums – my mom usually has a little vase of them on the kitchen counter. So pretty!

Looks like fire in the sky – Monhegan!

We see the most spectacular sunsets when we’re in Maine. We see them here in Charleston as well, but it just seems like they are over the top when on vacation. Sunset usually occurs while we are having dinner in the Island Inn dining room. I usually make quick run to the porch for a few photos and try to get back before I’m missed. How can you NOT take a photo? The sky is so wild and vibrant. Wow!

These beautiful sunrises and sunsets are proof that life is full of magic.

Gardens of Mackinac Island!

I took this photo several years ago on Mackinac Island, MI. My sister and I were on the West Bluff (behind the Grand Hotel). I love that stretch of grand homes with the most beautiful gardens ever. I am always respectful of people’s privacy, but did snap a photo of the garden. Another favorite location is the Pontiac Trail (and Pontiac’s Lookout) – I remember years ago a painting by Marlee Brown. Wow.

Most of Mackinac Island is state park, check out this cool map!

Delivery Mackinac Island Style!

Mackinac Island, MI

Mackinac Island, MI – no cars. It’s nice. No exhaust fumes, no loud rumbling, beeping or screeching of tires. Just a nice clip-clop of horse hoofs as they make their way around town. This is how they deliver groceries when they come off the ferry. Pretty cool, eh? They empty garbage in a similar way – horse and cart – no trucks. Can you imagine? That takes some major planning!

Mackinac Island, Michigan Photo

View from Mackinac Island, MI

Mackinac Island, MI – a fabulous place to visit if you haven’t been. Water, the smell of fudge (several fudge shops, all are wonderful), the clip-clop of the horses hoofs. No cars – only bicycles and horses/carriages. It’s a beautiful place – mostly a state park! Here is another link to check it out, from Pure Michigan!

A Little Bit of Michigan At Bowens Island – Charleston, SC

We found a little bit of Michigan while at Bowens Island Restaurant a few weeks ago (Charleston, SC). How cool is that? You NEVER know what you’ll find – that’s the cool part about that place – other than their food… AMAZING!

View of Grand Hotel From the West Bluff – Mackinac Island, MI

Mackinac Island, Michigan. I have such fond memories of Mackinac Island. The fun we had as kids. It was a place that all of us kids could hang out – and by hang out, I don’t mean stand around – we were busy. Busy exploring the island. We had to check in every so often, meet for lunch and dinner and then we were back out with our friends. Such FREEDOM. As a kid I never ventured to this part of the island. This photo was taken from the West Bluff, so what you are seeing is the back side of the Grand Hotel. Those skies! Lake Huron… cold water.

If you ever have a chance to visit the island, be sure to explore the backside of the island – it’s captivatingly beautiful! There are many interior trails, as well as the more well known trails around Arch Rock – which are pretty stunning themselves!

I hope i’ve piqued your interest! Catch you back here tomorrow!

Port Clyde (Maine) Buoys!

Port Clyde, Maine – one of our favorite places on earth… I still remember the first time arriving in Maine. It was so different. So the way that I feel. I am not pretentious – I don’t try to be someone I’m not – I think that’s part of the appeal of Port Clyde (and most of Maine).

I remember the overwhelming feeling of not wanting to leave. I’ve never experienced that from anywhere I’ve ever been. Sometimes you’re sad to leave, or you’ve had such a good time it’s difficult to leave, but this was different. Kind of like my soul belongs in this area. Hard to explain unless you’ve felt that as well.

Read a bit about Port Clyde (HERE) from the Monhegan Boat Line website!

Pontiac Trail – Mackinac Island, MI

This is the Pontiac Trail Overlook that I mentioned yesterday – Mackinac Island, MI. This is a fabulous place to visit – I love this little trail, the views are stunning once you round the corner. You can see the Mackinac Bridge as well as Lake Huron. You also will most likely have gone by the West Bluff – a favorite location behind the Grand Hotel!

The “Back Side” of Mackinac Island, MI

Several years ago my mom, sister and I took a little vacation to Mackinac Island, MI. It’s a place we went every year when we were kids because my dad raced the Port Huron to Mackinac sailboat race each year. The men raced, the women drove to the island with the kids – had a few days to enjoy the island before the sailors arrived – I remember those trips. So many people! It was fun to hang out with your friends and have the island to roam. Those were the days!

Most people see is the the busy town area with all the cool business, hotels, restaurants, etc. This photo was taken on the back side of the island. Calm and serene – and I need that… while I enjoy the hustle and bustle I SUPER enjoy the quiet, peaceful beauty of the water and the shore. The island is about 8 miles around and it’s situated between the upper and lower peninsula of Michigan and lies in the Straits of Mackinac. Many people think of this as a touristy location, and it can be, unless you know where to go. The back side of the island is heavenly as is the interior of the island. Rent a bike (or even better, bring one if you can) the trails are stunning. My sister and I took a ride after a fabulous dinner and we were hustling to get to town before all light was gone! There are no streetlights, cars, etc. Just bikes and horses/carriages. Beautiful!

Monhegan Boat “Laura B” as seen from Marshall Point Lighthouse

Monhegan Boat Line. Love them. They have two fabulous boats, Laura B (pictured here heading back to Port Clyde from Monhegan), and Elizabeth Ann, a larger boat.

It seems that we usually take the Elizabeth Ann on our way to the island and the Laura B on the way back to Port Clyde. Both are wonderful – the crew – and everyone who works at Monhegan Boat Lines is fabulous!
