Happy 1st Day of Fall, Y’all!

First. Day. Of. Fall! How exciting is this? To me, it’s the best of the best. Fall is my favorite season by far, I love knowing the weather will turn crisper, less humid, I love knowing the leaves change (at least in some places, like where I took this photo). We don’t have a lot of color change here in Charleston. A few trees do change, and that is always exciting to see.

September in Maine – Photo from the Archives.

Monhegan, Maine

I took this photo our first year in Maine. September, 2006. We knew it would be beautiful, but whoa! We had no idea of how drop dead gorgeous it was. We visited Port Clyde, Maine – then took a boat to Monhegan Island for 5 nights – then back to mainland and headed home. There was so much to see it was mind blowing. This was 18 years ago… I’m sure this scene looks just like this today.

Memories: St John’s Marsh – Broken Leg On A Snowmobile

Stunning, isn’t it? This photo was taken a while ago when we were in Michigan. When I drive this relatively long stretch as a passenger, I’m usually taking photos, a lot of photos. A few will turn out. I love the trees in this shot. There are only a few. This is a lakeplain prairie. If you have never heard of such a thing, take a quick peek and discover what that is. Beautiful yes, but this area holds memories, ha ha – (This is a photo from a year or two ago, we aren’t in MI now)…

Flower On the Windowsill…

I love having a flower, usually popped into a small jar, on my kitchen window. Often it’s a flower that broke off while changing water and giving a fresh cut, but sometimes it’s there just because. The light streams in and the setting against the large live oak trees is magical. The bright yellow makes you smile each time you walk past.

Oh! The drama of this colorful plant!

OH! The drama, right? Doesn’t this remind you of a Chinese Lantern, but with a bit more color? It’s so vibrant against the green, isn’t it? I took this photo while out and about in Mount Pleasant, SC – at a cool design shop filled with beautiful things… including plants, flowers, urns, and more!

Dark & Stormy to Bright & Light…

The skies have been dark and stormy for the past four? days – I think i’ve lost count. The threat of tropical weather is no party but Lil Debby has passed by Charleston and we are grateful. It was a nice treat to run to the store and buy some fresh produce for dinner… My avocado is basking in the sun in attempt to get ripe enough for dinner, ha ha.

A doozy of a week…

It’s been a doozy of a week. Tropical Storm Debby definitely has overstayed her (un)welcome! The stress of these weather events (around the country, not just Charleston SC) takes their toll for sure. I’m writing this on Wednesday where it is still raining and the threat that Debby will make landfall somewhere near Charleston is a possibility.

From the Archives – Bird Watching at The Swag!

What an exquisite place to watch the birds be so happy. Really, to watch all animals be in their element. The rabbits, chipmunks, skunks, wild turkeys and of course, the occasional bear (which I have yet to see, but Fred has seen). I’ve heard about their sitings, and one was very close. We’ve been close enough to smell them (smells like a wet dog, which some people can’t smell it, me included – but Fred can, whew!). We’ve seen fresh piles of doo… the ground freshly dug where they likely dug up a bee’s nest (I had no idea), fresh claw marks near an apple tree, the list goes on. You learn so much! #YOAHBEAR

A Charlie-Like Sketch by Jamie Wyeth!

We fell in love with this poster so long ago, after we lost our first Jack Russell Terrier. We saw this in the window at the Farnsworth Museum. What a treasure. Since that time very dear friends who know Jamie sent us the poster with an inscription and a JRT digging, which is exactly what Charlie looked like when he would get to digging in the yard for something.
